eFestivals spoke to Daniel Oliver the guitarist with Nothing More ahead of their appearance at Download 2014.
How would you describe your music?
It’s a hard thing to describe, I would describe it as a blend between rock, hard rock and metal and alternative.
Lead single 'This is the time (Ballast)' seems to have had a lot of good reviews and some critics have even said that you are one of the best bands of 2014? How do you deal with that type of hype?
Fortunatley that’s always been the mantra of the band to write better material each time. This is our first world wide release with our first single, but we have done albums in the past that have been done independently. But as we mature into the artists that we are we will become better songwriters. There is a pressure now that we have so much attention on us but it is a pressure that we have put on ourselves.
Are there any other bands at Download that you are sticking around for?
A lot of the festivals we play and then spend all of our time doing press, however we are at Download early so we will be out there catching a lot of the bands.
What can we expect from your Download performance later?
They can expect a lot of energy and attitude, we have two drummers in the band, our singer used to be the original drummer and so there are lots of drum breakdown between him and our current drummer. There is a crazy bass solo that involves all of us and we spin in the air, there is a lot of custom metal work on the stage which i wielded myself, so it’s an interesting set which people seem to really enjoy.
Do you have any plans to tour in the UK?
Not immediately, we are heading home shortly. We might be heading overback here in November.
Which item can you not go without on tour?
Toothpaste, im a big fan of oral hygiene. I like to keep a notepad as well. One thing that I will never go without and that thing is coffee mate that's my number one, it’s my best friend.
Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to start a band and become successful?
Work as hard as you can treat it like a marriage. I’m sure there have been bands that have got together who are better than the Beatles but just fell apart because they didn’t get along. Its a fun job but it’s a lot of hard work. So just work your ass off.
Nothing More’s self titled album is released on June 23rd. Their single 'This is The Time (Ballast)' is available to buy now.
