Featuring some of the best-loved acts in the Folk scene, on an ideal site Folk by the Oak is a one day folk festival for 5,000, now in its seventh year, set in the beautiful grounds of Hatfield House in Herts happening on Sunday 20th July 2014. The event runs from 2pm until around 10pm.
Line-up
Richard Thompson, Beth Orton, Seth Lakeman, Kathryn Tickell & The Side, The Elizabethan Session, Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita, Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker, Paper Aeroplanes, Keston Cobblers Club, Jaywalkers, Salt House, and Maz O'Connor, have been announced for this summer's Folk by the Oak.
The Elizabethan Session is a very special project commissioned by Folk by the Oak and English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS). This March Martin Simpson, Nancy Kerr, Jim Moray, Bella Hardy, John Smith, Hannah James, Rachel Newton, and early music specialist Emily Askew will live and work together for one week at a rural retreat to create new music that has a resonance and relevance to the Elizabethan era. They will then present a set of this new music at the one day folk festival.
Other entertainment
In addition to the musical programme of contemporary folk and acoustic artists the family friendly event offers a craft fair, workshops, children's activities, storytelling, circus skills, real ale bar, music stalls, recycled gifts and a selection of tasty produce and a real ale bar on site.
Tickets
The early bird offer has ended. An adult ticket is priced at £40, a child (aged 5 to 15 years) ticket is priced at £17, and children aged 4 and under are free, and do not require a ticket. There is also an early bird family offer (2 adults and 2 children) for £92. Early bird prices are available until midnight 31 March 2014. Advance group bookings of 10 or more qualify for a £2 reduction per ticket.
Take a picnic
Festival goers are invited to bring a picnic, but for safety reasons no fires or barbecues are allowed. Refreshments and bar will be available. Seating and cover is not provided so chairs, tables, picnic blankets and umbrellas are all allowed. No dogs, other than guide dogs, can be admitted. This is a non-camping event.
Getting there
Hatfield train/tube station is just five minutes walk away, and there's ample free parking.
