Norfolk & Norwich Festival the international arts festival takes place from Friday 1st May until Saturday 16th May at various locations throughout the medieval city of Norwich.

The festival offers world premieres, festival commissions and rare appearances by globally renowned artists as well as outdoor free events as well as a children's programme.

Headline names of this festival with a strong classical music programme include Philip Glass, Ute Lemper, Dawn Upshaw, and Wendy Cope perform across the city in venues as diverse as the cathedral and the first ever Spiegeltent to be erected in the region.

Jazz comes from Gwilym Simcock, Andy Sheppard, Tomasz Stańko, Claire Martin, and Ian Shaw.

Dawn Upshaw performs Osvaldo Golijov's song cycle, Ayre. Jonathan Dove debuts his festival commission There Was a Child. There's the world premiere of Roxanna Panufnik and Wendy Cope's The Audience performed by The Endellion String Quartet.

Other highlights include Nicola Benedetti, the Tallis Scholars, the Retrospect Ensemble (formerly the King's Consort) and the Philharmonia Orchestra with soloist Jennifer Pike.

The contemporary performance programme of acts from across the globe includes Chunky Move, les ballets C de la B, Ashes, Balletboyz, Circa, Gob Squad, Ontroerend Goed, Taylor Mac, and writer Martin Amis.

The children's programme this year includes Architects of Air’s Luminarium, Circ Pánic from Barcelona, and Chipolatas for performance of acrobatics, circus and all things madcap. Other highlights include stand up for kids by Ian Billings, Sweeney Todd with puppets, music and comedy by French troupe Les Grooms and a family concert featuring poet Roger McGough.
