Parklife 2004

The grand opening of Alexandra Park features two days of afternoon concerts running from noon to 6pm. Headlining the event is Courtney Pine, with Nitin Sawhney, and Desmond Dekker also on the bill. Oldham’s Clint Boon, keyboardist with Inspiral Carpets, will act as MC and DJ for both days.

Other highlights of Parklife include a giant picnic for families, a space hopper race, and a Healthstart Festival. Those who are feeling active will be able to take part in a 5km Corporate Cup run, a health walk from Fitton Hill and circus skills.

The action is not just confined to the park. Oldham Play Action Group are leading a series of children’s activities, and street artists will be performing throughout the town centre. A park and ride scheme is being considered.
