The first Shimmy Festival takes place at Lakeside YMCA, Newby Bridge, in Cumbria on Sunday 23rd August 2009 from 11am until 11pm.
This one day festival features 13 bands, over 12 hours. Music varies from, indie, rock, pop, punk, acoustic and electronic and is made up of mainly local Cumbrian and Lancashire bands who are battling it out be be crowned ShimmyFest best british band 2009.
The line-up is The Mooncats, Glove Puppets, Lupa Tom, Rubakai, Daddysmilk, The Monroes, Switchboard Spectacular, The Principals, Captain Stogie, Barking With Butterflies, Shore, Katie-Leigh, and Out the Back Room.
Tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £7.50 for juniors aged under 16, and a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) is priced at £30. To buy tickets, click here.
Shimmy Fest is a non profit charity festival supported by the YMCA, who aim to raise money for various charities across the United Kingdom. This year it's the chosen children's charity 'Rays of Sunshine'. Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity exists to grant the wishes of children who are living with serious or life-threatening illnesses between the ages of 3-18 who live in the United Kingdom.
The event also has a multitude of different activities at the event to keep the whole family entertained. No matter what age the festival has something for you, from canoeing to archery to live bird shows, swimming in Lake Windermere, zip wire, carnival stalls, and circus workshops throughout the day.
There is also the Lakeland Shimmy Run (5k and 3k) held on location at Lakeside at 10am on Sunday morning before the afternoon crowds arrive.
The event also offers food and drink to cater for all tastes with English, French, Oriental, Italian and Vegetarian cuisine. For the 18+ they have a bar open from 12pm-2pm and 5pm-9pm serving a range of popular drinks.
The event offers camping, and there are various accommodation options in the area.
