South London Calling has been cancelled.

A statement says:

As many of you will now be aware the South London Calling festival in Crystal Palace park planned for Saturday 9 July has been cancelled.

Over the past week we have seen various speculation on the internet as to the reason for this and we just wanted to set the record straight. The cancellation had nothing to do with a lack of ticket sales, in fact the event was on target to sell out. The decision for the event not to take place was taken solely by the police and local council. We are as disappointed as everyone else that they have changed their mind so late in the day. We had agreed to everything that was asked of us but they still were not prepared to let the festival go ahead.

Since we found out last week we have been trying to find an alternative solution so that the festival could still go ahead in some form. Due to the months of planning and organising that are involved in holding a festival it would have been impossible for us to locate to another outdoor arena at such short notice. We held discussions with some of Londons best known nightclubs about holding a daytime event at their venues but in the end we felt it could not compare to the experience of an outdoor festival.

As a result of this we are now in the process of arranging refunds for all ticket holders. If you purchased your ticket online, refunds will be paid back via Paypal to the account that the original transaction was made from. The face value of each ticket will be refunded along with the postage charge in those cases where tickets have not already been dispatched. We appreciate that you will all be keen to receive your refund but due to the number of tickets that need to be refunded this may take us a little time so we ask if you could be patient. In addition we are also restricted by the length of time that it takes for Paypal to process these payments. Below is some information from the Paypal website with regards to how refunds are processed and the length of time involved. If you purchased your ticket from a ticket outlet, then please contact the outlet to arrange a refund.

Other attractions on the day will include fairground rides, side shows, merchandise stalls, food stalls, bars, photo booths, face painting, giveaways and lots more!

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.
