The Hub Festival has been cancelled.
A statement from The Hub Festival says:
It is with tremendous sadness and disappointment we have to inform you that at an emergency Hub Media CIC board meeting last week the directors made the difficult decision to postpone the first Hub Festival. This was a very difficult decision and we would like to pass our sincerest apologies to anyone that has been inconvenienced by this or, like us, were looking forward to it. We would also like to pass on our thanks to all the traders, specialist support companies, artists and most importantly the majority of locals who are in support of The Hub. .
All those who have purchased a ticket will be refunded in full.
Before we go into the reasons we would like to stress that The Hub Festival in this format will take place at sometime in the future. It may be later this summer and definitely in 2015 to celebrate our first year on air. We would also like to stress that this decision isn't because of the views of the objectors or the hard work of one individual to damage The Hub. It is purely financial and to protect the launch of The Hub Radio.
We only recently applied for our licence because, as a new and fairly large (for the area) event, we wanted to ensure that all facilities and plans were finalised to ensure the event was safe, fun and of a high quality. We received a small number of objections but surprisingly some of them quoted the same inaccurate and possibly fraudulent information and all were unwilling to withdraw their objection despite my reasonable professional response.
It has since come to light that a single particular individual is visiting local residents with inaccurate information asking that they object.
We have taken action against this individual and will continue to do so through appropriate channels.
Whilst we are confident that a licence would be granted at a licensing hearing, the hearing itself isn't until 23rd April. By this time we would have spent a significant amount of money on deposits for facilities. Should the licence be refused or reduced we would not bring in enough money to cover costs and this would have an impact on the launch of The Hub Radio. The radio is our main business and although low this isn't a risk the board is willing to take.
However, we shall be attending the next meeting of Veryan Parish Council and the hearing on 23rd April in St Austell. We would like as much public support there as possible so keep an eye on our website and Facebook and Twitter for details. If the licence is granted in any form on the 23rd we will make a decision then as to the type of event we can put on with a short amount of prep time."
The Hub Festival is a new event that takes place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May 2014 at The Hub Festival Field, Veryan, nr Truro, in Cornwall and hopes to start the festival season and Summer off with a great time.
The event started as a planned launch party for a new community radio station and has grown into a 2 and a half day festival that organisers hope to repeat annually.
