Based on a greenfield site alongside the National Trust workhouse with two main marquee stages and many events taking place in and around the beautiful Minster town of Southwell. The Gate to Southwell Folk Festival takes place from Friday 1st until Monday 4th June 2012.

Showcasing international performers of the folk scene, and local performers, with folk dances playing a big part over the weekend, there's plenty of opportunity to get involved in the workshops, ceilidhs, open mic stages and children's events.

Procession

Southwell's fourth folk festival will coincide with the annual Gate to Southwell procession of Morris dancers to Southwell Minster from Nottingham city centre.

Around the town

In addition to performers in the main marquee, there will be an open mike session marquee, a dance display area, singarounds, and opportunities to meet the artists. There will also be workshops and sessions throughout the town, and it is hoped the Workhouse, a National Trust Property, can be used for some of these.

As well as music there will be children's entertainment in the second marquee. The triple turreted children's tent will house various workshops and activities.

Beer festival

The festival usually also includes a beer and cider festival, with about 40 beers, mostly from micro breweries, and will include several specially commissioned brews and also offer a wide variety of catering options.

Camping

Camping is on adjacent fields. There is camping available, priced at around £15 for adults, or £8 for a youth (12-17) with limited space for caravans and motor homes (£5 extra).
