After a year off in 2010, the 2011 Strawberry Fair will see the greatest changes in over a decade: A 21st century Village Green with a strawberry message wall, strange art installations, human spiders and flies, anti-karaoke.

The event has become an integral part of the festival calendar over the last 30 years, and is set on a lovely site (strictly no camping though!) by the river in the centre of Cambridge. In 2011 the FREE event will take place on Saturday 4th June.

Central to the new look fair is the Village Green, featuring an open air arena with a range of displays reminiscent of community celebrations from a by-gone age (but all done in a Strawberry style). The Village Green will kick off by welcoming the Strawberry parade back from its tour of the town. There will battle re-enactments in full regalia and some classic TV with It's a Knockout inspired antics. The Cambridge Community Circus will show you a trick or two, plus a Fancy Dress Pageant and a fire finale to round of the day.

Line-up

The line-up will be published in the official programme, which is available from the Info Stands, during the day. There are two Info Stands, one by the Four Lamps, where the footpaths meet, near Maids Causeway. The other is by the Green Area, not far from the Fort St. George public house.

Entertainment

The fair is being reinvented from top to bottom and the site plan has been completely re-drawn so this year's event will look and very feel different. There will still be some of your favourite areas like the Kids, Green area and the Wigwam Stage. The Acoustic Bar returns with a new line up featuring comedy, cabaret, folk and acoustic performances. There will be a brand new 'Steam Punk Town' music area, and central to the new look fair will be the Village Green, an open air arena offering a range of performances and displays, and of course, the obligatory beer tents with AUTHENTIC LOCAL ALE.

Parking

There's no parking at the site. There are car parks nearby (5 to 10 minutes walk) but they can be expensive (£2-ish an hour during the day).
