A showcase for bands around the world to the world's music industry. There's also a film and interactive element to the festival.

SXSW - South By South West - is a festival held in Austin, Texas, USA each spring. The dates for 2009 are confirmed as Wednesday 18th to Sunday 22nd March 2009.

During the festival Austin's bars, clubs, pubs and streets become home to a variety of acts. To read a review from 2007s event click here.

The first acts confirmed for SXSW include Angry vs The Bear, Astrid Williamson, Ben Kweller, Benny Gallagher, Black Cherry, Buck 65, Buraka Som Sistema, Casiokids, Chris T-T, Come On Gang!, Crystal Method, Dananananaykroyd, Ebony Bones, Ella, Explosions in the Sky, Flood of Red, Ida Maria, Kid Sister, Micachu, Mike Badger, Moriarty, My Federation, Nacional, Peter Bjorn & John, Primal Scream, Ra Ra Riot, Shad, Temposhark, The Beat Poets, The Carrivick Sisters, The Courteneers, thecocknbullkid, Thee Oh See's, Toy Horses, Virgin Passages, We Have Band, We Should Be Dead, and White Lies. There will be a Suicide Squeeze showcase which will feature These Arms Are Snakes, Past Lives, Human Highway, Cotton Jones, and The Coathangers.

Liverpool Soundcity are hosting some parties with The Whip, The Courteeners, The Hot Melts, and Wave Machines all confirmed.

The 'Sounds from Spain' showcase will include La Habitacion Roja, The Right Ons, SFD, Los Coronas, Depedro, Underwater Tea Party, Nacho Vegas, La Carrau, Hyperpotamus, We Are Balboa, Suzy y Los Quattro, Guillamino, Sunday Drivers, Tokyo Sex Destruction , Capsula, Savia , The Pepper Pots, We Are Standard, and even more bands from Spain with paella and sangria.

The music section of the festival will take place from March 18th to 22nd, the film section will last from March 13th to the 21st, and the interactive section from the 13th to the 17th. No acts are confirmed for 2009.

Around 1,400 bands play in around 60 venues in the city during the festival.

With a view to promoting a project by singer Billy Bragg to help prisoners learn to play musical instruments, organisers of the Left Field area of Glastonbury will stage an event at South By South West. The idea is to promote Billy Bragg's Jail House Doors scheme, which was launched in memory of music legend Joe Strummer of the Clash.

Impresario and multi-Grammy winning producer, composer and arranger Quincy Jones will deliver the keynote address at the 2009 South By Southwest Music Conference March 19th, 2009.

The Bouncing Souls, Dillinger Four, Darkest Hour and more will play a FREE SXSW Party hosted by Shirts For A Cure.
