It never seems like a good idea to drag yourself out of your tent when you have an indescribable headache caused by the fact the only liquid that’s touched your lips in the last 24 hours is alcohol, and the only thing you’re wearing is back to front underwear, that you’re not even sure belongs to you.

But the small gathering of hardcore fans who had assembled to watch relative newcomer Rachel Fuller open the main stage on Sunday were treated to a welcome surprise.

On lead guitar was her partner of ‘The Who’ fame Pete Townsend. When she introduced him the crowd responded by a fast tempo chant of ‘Pete, Pete, Pete...’. Unsurprisingly, like bees to honey the crowd doubled in seconds.

From that moment on the show had been stolen and the crowd’s attention was fixed to Townsend. It was like watching the male portion of the crowd at Wimbledon whenever Maria Sharapova played.

If I was to make an effort to place Fuller in a particular genre I’d say she was a combination of classical and pop, perhaps leaning slightly more to the pop side but you can’t help thinking that that slant is generated by a need for commercial success.

“Has anyone ever done the housework naked?” she jokes, before introducing the title song from her album ‘Cigarettes and Housework’. She also claims that this is her “first live show”, which she goes on to correct to her “first paid live show”.

Fuller’s background in classical music certainly shines through and her expertise on the piano won’t have gone un-noticed.
