Do we really need another melancholy middle of the road soft rock/indie band? Essentially this is exactly what Captain are. Inoffensive, beautiful melodies existing on a bed of male/female harmonies is the order of the day.
Despite the harmonisation working to a certain extent it still has nothing on the likes of Seafood or Fields and the labelling of just another bland indie group is surely on the cards.
Far from inspiring Captain try and coax the NME/Radio 1 crowd into livening up a bit, You can jump around to this one if youve got the energy at this time of day. Quite how youre supposed to jump around to one of Captains lazy summery melodies is beyond me.
This heart keeps on beating has a vintage feel and reminded me a bit of Beautiful South Im not sure if thats necessarily a good thing though.
Then the heavens decided to open and the tangible possibility that we were going to have a rain free day instantly evaporated. Most of the crowd made a quick u-turn, sizing up which one of the tents was closest and made a bee-line for the T-Break stage, Im sure whatever band were playing would have been very appreciative of the unexpected support.
Undeterred Captain closed with new single Glorious due out on 31st July. Not the most attention grabbing band of the weekend but far from the worse.
