This review is a bit of a struggle to write, not because Friday’s line-up was particularly bland or non-eventful, but because I spent the duration of Friday evening sitting behind a Citroen Saxo and moving about 10 feet every half hour, such was the atrocious traffic conditions caused by the consistently dour weather bestowed on Scotland’s festival going public.

Extending the festival to three days must have sounded like a good idea at the time, yet it would have taken a fairly unoptimistic prophet to predict a storm of the type of proportions that hit the T site on the opening day of the event.

The ever helpful Clyde Radio elevated the news concerning T in the Park’s traffic conditions to second on its news bulletin, just behind the latest details of the UK’s terrorist attacks, and the 13 mile tail backs snaking their way through the usually quiet country lanes explained why things were becoming such a struggle for those making their annual pilgrimage to the largest festival north of the border.

As we had nowhere to camp, and were being warned of 7 and a half hour delays we had no choice but to turn back and watch the days coverage unfold on a 32 inch TV with the added bonus of all the home comforts – still, it’s not quite the same is it?

Those who did make it on site in time to catch the bands were treated to performances from the out spoken Mockney Lily Allen, scouse seven piece The Coral, art rockers Bloc Party, and of course the day’s headliners, The Arctic Monkeys.

T in The Park have issued the following information on their website: “There have been major traffic queues due to the wet weather conditions which has made parking on site extremely difficult. As a result this has slowed down traffic into the event and caused tailbacks. While we are working as hard as we can to resolve this and we do appreciate the patience of all fans who are queing and we will get them into the festival as soon as possible with their co-operation.”

They went on to say “We would like to encourage fans coming to the event tomorrow (Saturday) to take a shuttle bus instead of driving to alleviate traffic. The inclement weather has reduced the number of vehicle parking spaces available at T in the Park and parking spaces are now at a premium.”

Keep checking back as eFestivals will be bringing you reviews and photos from bands performing over the weekend.
