Killarney Festival of Music & Food has been cancelled. Organisers made a statement saying, "We are devastated that the festival has been cancelled – we did everything in our power to make it happen this weekend.
We would like to extend our sincere apologies to all the festival goers who were planning to attend the event in Killarney and we would like to thank all the local businesses and statutory agencies for their help and support.
The promoters are currently in discussions with some of the acts, about performing, in an alternative indoor venue in Killarney over the weekend and hope to make an announcement as soon possible."
Ireland's Killarney (previously Westport) Festival of Music & Food returns for a 4th year.
The two-day, family-friendly event is taking place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June at a new location - Killarney Racecourse, in Co Kerry.
Line-up
Duran Duran will headline the Sunday night,also confirmed are Jools Holland & his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra featuring Gilson Lavis and guest vocalists Marc Almond, Ruby Turner, Louise Marshall & Mabel Ray, music legend Burt Bacharach, Texas, The Proclaimers, The Undertones, Father John Misty, Damien Dempsey, Wallis Bird, Mick Flannery, Gemma Hayes, Delorentos, Mundy, Paddy Casey, Declan O’Rourke, The 4 Of Us, Something Happens, Colin Devlin, The Frank & Walters, Walking on Cars, Morrissey & Marshall, Daithí, Kormacs Big Band, Gangs, Steven Sharpe & The Broke Straight Boys, Tracey Bruen and Lloyd Yates, We Banjo 3, Ham Sandwich, Giulia, David Lyttle, Sleep Thieves and Gingerbeard Family.
Headliners and additional acts will be confirmed in the months leading up to the festival. Expect over 60 international and Irish artists.
Tickets
Adult Day tickets are priced at 76 euros and weekend tickets are priced at 142 euros. Teen (13 to 17 years) concessions are available and under 12’s go free.
Comedy
The Comedy Tent will feature Neil Delamere, Jason Byrne, Karl Spain, John Colleary, Foil Arms & Hog, Steve Bennett, Chris Kent, Colm O'Regan, Fred Cooke and Comedy Club 4 Kids with Howard Read & Little Howard (CBBC), Deirdre O’Kane and Après Match with Barry Murphy, Risteard Cooper and Gary Cooke.
Après Match mocks famous, mostly Irish, soccer stars and pundits including Bill O'Herlihy, Eamon Dunphy, Johnny Giles, Liam Brady, Frank Stapleton, and Graeme Souness, as well as pundits from the UK sports channels, including Richard Keys, Andy Gray, Jamie Redknapp, Gary Lineker and Alan Hansen.
Food Village
The Food Village will showcase wine and food not only for the region of Kerry but for Ireland as a whole. The area will feature well established restaurants from around Ireland, local artisan food producers and culinary demonstrations by some of Ireland’s finest celebrity and Michelin Star chefs including Derry Clarke from L’Ecrivain. There will be a Wine Bar featuring Wines of the World, a Craft Beer Lounge and a Cocktail Lounge where visitors will not only be able experience magnificent cocktails but attend cocktail making masterclasses.
Chefs include Derry Clarke (L’Ecrivain, Dublin), Ross Lewis (Chapter One, Dublin) and JP McMahon (EatGalway Restaurant Group, which comprises Aniar, Cava Boedga, and Eat Gastropub), will join Clodagh McKenna (Clodagh’s Kitchen, Dublin), Sunil Ghai (Ananda Restaurant), Noel Enright (The Lake Hotel, Killarney); Paul Treyvaud (Treyvauds, Killarney); and Catherine Fulvio (Ballyknocken House).
A number of chill-out zones will be available for the visitors to sit and enjoy the festival atmosphere while sampling the delights that they have purchased.
Children
The Killarney Festival welcomes all ages and of course kids under 12 years of age are allowed in for free accompanied by an adult when tickets are booked in advance. The Killarney Kids Zone (KKZ) will have a fairground, giant games and kids’ activities for all ages including arts and crafts. There will also be cookery demos for children in the Killarney Gourmet Food Village.
Transport
Irish Rail offer connections from all major rail-linked towns and cities in Ireland to/ from Killarney Railway Station. Kerry Airport is a regional airport centrally located in the heart of County Kerry and16km from Killarney. It is serviced by short, direct and inexpensive flights from Dublin, London Stansted, London Luton, Frankfurt Hahn, Manchester.
Accommodation
This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.
