Walthamstow Garden Party, is a free weekend of music, theatre, arts and crafts, food and family activities in Walthamstow’s Lloyd Park on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July 2016.
Line-up
The festival will have two music stages will feature international and local artists.
Two music stages will include performances from international acts including Asian Dub Foundation performing La Haine, Batida, Emcida, Alif, Ana Tijoux, Mo’Kalamity, Sam Lee, Rocket Number Nine and special guest artist to be announced.
Theatre, Dance and Circus performances and workshops feature performances by Layla Rosa, Rosie Rowlands, Max Calaf, Tamzen Moulding, and Ludo Helin.

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.

The weekend will also feature a theatre and dance programme with performances and workshops. In the Worlds End fields local artist Layla Rosa from Circus Rosa curates ‘Ringside’ an area which celebrates circus, physical performance and participation, a place where audience can both watch and take part. A beautiful outdoor aerial rig will feature a range of circus performances from local, national and international artists including young people from Walthamstow Youth Circus, alongside internationally renowned aerial performers, acrobats and trampoline artists including Rosie Rowlands and Max Calaf. The public can sign up to try a range of circus activities including, Trampolining, Hula Hooping and Juggling.
The News From Nowhere stage will present some of the finest music talent from Walthamstow and beyond. This year the stage is produced by Beatroots, who are partnering with other music collectives across the weekend. The line-up will be showcasing some of the Stow Festival’s brilliant local acts ahead of their full festival in September, as well as interactive music sessions for all the family, and a taste of emerging talent from Waltham Forest Music Service. Walthamstow Acoustic Massive will be presenting their latest work, and the stage will feature guest performances from Mercury prize nominated folk singer Sam Lee and acclaimed duo Rocket Number Nine.
The Earthly Paradise tent will be the focal point for the best of local and Barbican-based young talent, hosting cross-arts work by and for young people. The Barbican Young Poets present the highlights of their 2016 programme, supported by the Barbican Junior Poets, local Waltham Forest school children who have been creating work together at Gnome House since January 2016. Other highlights include a RAP (Rhythm and Poetry) Party from award-winning artist Inua Ellams, short films by Walthamstow emerging young filmmakers selected by Walthamstow International Film Festival, and a night of stand up presented by Walthamstow-based Red Imp Comedy.
Create and the William Morris Gallery will team up for a third year to curate Useful & Beautiful Craft Marquee & Trail, a designer/maker focused programme inspired by the life and work of William Morris, supported by Independent Estate Agents The Stow Brothers. Presented both inside the Gallery and outside on the lawns, children and adults will be invited to take part in activities exploring the legacy of the evolutionary Victorian craftsman and try their hand at ceramics, embroidery, wallpaper design, woodwork, printmaking and more.
In the Winns Gallery, the Barbican and Stow Film Lounge will present a Slapstick and FairyTale programme of short films for families. This programme features contemporary animation, rarely seen international gems and an archive classic from Buster Keaton, alongside an assortment of fables, myths and legends from around the world including archival treasures from Lotte Reiniger. With live music accompaniment by Neil Brand and Stephen Horne.
The Art For All family area will be brimming with an abundance of activities, games and pop-up entertainments, including the Mini Garden Party, family cinema, a skate jam, and a variety of hands on workshops and interactive pursuits.
Fellowship Island offers a vision of future London as seasoned urban growers, passionate food and drink producers and a host of local organisations take over the island and explore ways to cultivate a closer connection with nature and community in the city.
The Real Food Festival returns with a mouth-watering line-up of the very best independent street food traders offering freshly cooked, quality flavours from around the world, and local enterprise Wild Card Brewery will be selling a choice range of beverages at their Craft Beer Bar.
This year also sees the launch of Keep It Free, a fundraising campaign asking people who enjoy the festival to give what they can to help invest in local artists and organisations, carry on attracting the best talent from around the globe and to keep the festival free for all.
