Any runners here?

Just recently completed my Royal Navy fitness test, 2.4km on a treadmill in under 11m 38s. Not difficult but I was so energised & pumped up from completing it I went for a run around Bushy Park & Hampton Court Palace completely forgetting where I parked my car!

I must keep this up. I'm fine with the running & being fit enough-ish its just the motivation to get on with it during precious free time abroad & at home & after work with jet lag. All of my friends work 9-5 jobs unlike me so can be difficult getting down the gym or park with them at weekends/after work. Any kick up the arse tips would be great.

Stopping drinking so much has helped so so much & not that I really smoke I have started using disposable Vapesticks instead.

My husband always runs alone as he says if somebody else drops out it's easier to to decide not to bother yourself. He uses Nike Plus as he enjoys keeping track of what he has run and listens to music when he runs. I think it is useful just to establish your own routine. For his marathon training he runs 3 times a week. Look at your schedule and see where you can fit them in and just do your best to stick to it. He uses mapmyrun website to map out where he is going to go as we live somewhere that is quite hilly and it shows you the elevation of the run.

Good luck with it.

French law dictates you need a medical certificate to be signed and stamped by a doctor to run a marathon in France.

Had been told I may have to pay for it. Saw the doc this morning, a quick chat and a check of my blood pressure and all done and dusted.

Nothing left to organise now. Less than 3 weeks til the taper now. Feeling quietly confident...goes off to search for some wood to touch...

I think given his sheepish confession it's probably true! Really made me laugh last night, as did the one about the "Terror on the Towpath" which there's a link for on that thread.

I'm back on C25K again (again, again, again....)

Certainly brightened up my morning!

Enlighten me - what's C25K?

anyway for me...

have decided to run a half marathon at the end of september, have looked through the thread so seen the sites suggested, but where's best to start - in a gym on a treadmill or just finding a route around the local area? as have been slacking with exercise recently

Ah...now I feel stupid - I thought 25k was a strange distance to target!

To answer the question - whatever suits you best. Though for me, I can't stand the treadmill. A 10k run outside flies by - after 2k on the treadmill I'm bored out of my mind.

Even if you're the type that prefers the treadmill, I'd advise at least one run a week on the road, as presumably the half you enter will be outside...

We've got Tough Mudder coming up in four weeks, so begins daily training!

Did the Park Run 5k (it's free, every Saturday, and they happen all across the UK) yesterday with a hangover and got 28', now I just need to ensure I can keep up that momentum for another three 5ks and 36 obstacles on top of that and I should be kushti

Hahaha, mine is in two weeks! I am so excited about it, have been training but probably not as ready as I could be. It's going to be really fun I reckon.

Also, I've signed up to do the classic quarter next year, a 44 mile ultra marathon down in Cornwall (where I live) along the coastal paths from the Lizard Point to Lands End. Post tough mudder isn't going to be as relaxing as I planned!

that sounds awesome :)

I've got this really annoying defect that means I can't really pursue running :(

it's called malatia patella, so the back of my knee cap is rough instead of smooth, so anything like swimming or cycling is fine, but high impact stuff causes my knee to swell up and hurt for a week :(

just swam across the River Thames though, that river is STRONG

I stupidly entered the London marathon on a bit of a whim and I have got in. I'm not a runner at all but will give it a damn good go to be ready. Did the great south run few years back but haven't done anything since. Is it at all possible to go from not running at all to being able to finish the marathon on April 13th?

Yes definitely. But start training now, the earlier the better. If you can run 10k without stopping by Xmas and then follow a 16 week plan you'll be fine.
