I agree. I'm certainly not one to get emotional over these kind of things, but it actually choked me up. Dare I say, there was almost a tear in my eye.

I don't really care too much, but for him personally, I really hope he wins a grand slam someday.

Murray does his talking on the court and that's fine with me. Look at some of the most popular sporting personalities in the country eg gerrard, Beckham, Strauss they don't exactly give charismatic or interesting interviews but are willing to play the media game and suck up to the right journalists. Murray doesn't care about what people think of him or his brand and is probably more genuine than many of the more popular sportsman.

Football and Cricket are team games though, and players often get media training encouraged by the team they represent. In tennis, Murray isn't part of brand England or brand Liverpool etc., he's just a sportsman. Sure he'll have an agent and various support staff, but unless he wants to create a brand and media persona and culture around himself (which he doesn't seem fussed on doing), he won't be pressured into it by anyone but the media. In team sports, players are expected to appear friendly and say the right things for the good of the team's image, and I imagine captains get particular pressure to doing that.

I think it depends on the circumstances, look at Beckham and he is effectively an individual who plays for a team. La galaxy have no power over him, so his actions are more about promoting him than the team.

Tennis players are some of the most commercial minded people out there. Caroline wozniaki is the 2nd highest paid female athlete in the world and isn't that great. Murray could earn more by playing the.media game but chooses.not too.
