Hope Sofia doesn't mind me reposting this from elsewhere, but it's none more apposite:

"here's a list of ALL the artists/bands who we have already tried and who can't play for one reason or another (we really have tried our hardest with all of them): Bonnie Prince Billy, The National, Decemberists, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker, Rufus Wainwright, Iron & Wine, Beirut, Arcade Fire, Beck, Belle & Sebastian, Devendra Banhart, Eels, Joanna Newsom, Gillian Welch, Mogwai, Broken Social Scene, Portishead, Thom York, Wilco, Sigur Ros, Sufjan Stevens... and there's probably a few more, whom I can't think of off the top of my head."

Been trying to rack my brains on this one and it seems that there really aren't that many valid headliners left...a few (personal) ideas/wishes are below...

  • Gomez

  • Band of Horses

  • Ron Sexsmith

  • Andrew Bird

  • Ray Lamontagne

  • Antony and the Johnsons

  • Cinematic Orchestra & Patrick Watson

  • Ben Folds (Five)

  • Suzanne Vega

  • Modest Mouse

  • The Divine Comedy

I understand that most of these are a definite "no" but I am really struggling to find that 3rd attraction...I hope BSP do not take it because I believe (however good they are) it is a fallback option.

What do other people think?

I personally do not think New Pornographers are good enough to filll the 3rd slot (sorry) :O

Re the third headliner - as Sipperana said, we were hoping for The Decemberists or eels, but guess that's not going to be happening....... I would have loved The National as well.......

........ but........

I don't really care :) - because I think they've got *such* a good line up so far that by Sun eve I'll quite happily sit and listen to whoever's in the Bimble Inn and have a fab time. I think EITS and Fleet Foxes are *amazing* headliners for Fri / Sat, so as far as I'm concerned this is already my Festival of the Year - and I'm going to Glasto and Latitude before then and (altho' I'm sure I'll have a great time at both of those) I still think EOTR will be the best of the bunch :D

PS I'm also strangely chuffed about the fact that apparently Ben Goldacre is going to be there :)

PPPPS.......

Of course, if the third headliner turns out to be The Divine Comedy (or Neil Hannon), or Ben Folds (+/- Five) or Midlake or My Morning Jacket, then of course I'll be at the Garden Stage propped up against Sipperana with a hot cider in hand :D

I imagine it's really hard for any festival to get three quality headliners, esp one the size of EOTR. I'm personally really excited about Explosions in the sky, and fleet foxes will be good as well. My bets for the last headliner slot? MMJ, or...ummm.....i'm not entirely sure to be honest! Spiritualized and British sea power, i love them both, but i can't see them being great headliners.

Sorry for the long post, and even more so if i sound arrogant at all.

Top of my wish list, given the definte no shows (of which the National would have been my top choice by some distance), I would love it to be Grizzly Bear. They're at Green Man so it's probably a non-starter but I'm still holding out a small hope.

The Felice Brothers would do a great job too I think and from out in left field, I wondered about the Lemonheads - they have a new album out.

I would be very happy with MMJ, but I'm not too confident about it being them. Anyway, as others have said there's so much great stuff already, this is just the icing on the cake. If by some miracle it is MMJ, perhaps we could also have Dan Auerbach & the Fast Five as Patrick Hallahan is drumming for him as well now too. Then I really would be in heaven.

My 12 year old is very excited about the Horrors since seeing them in some episode of the Mighty Boosh. Sharp hair cuts and skinny jeans, not all beards and plaid shirts so the kids are happy.

Papercuts have pulled out apparently.
