End of the Road 2009 (!)

I've been to all three - and bought this years ticket in the pre-sale - that's not bragging, just admitting up front I am more than converted!

The setting is wonderful, peacocks, parrots, tunnels of tree branches all lit up by fairy lights.

The sound is wonderful, best of all the festivals I've been to.

The bar is wonderful, choice of "proper" beers, lagers and ciders, not just your usual "carling or strongbow?"

The stuff for kids looks wonderful, very creative - I think they made a film or something last year, all making little characters......but much though I really fancied getting involved I'm 6' 3" and 42 - I think I would've been spotted!

The crowd is wonderful, the atmosphere seems to make everyone chatty and open.

as for the downside.........errrrrrr.........it does get a bit cold at night!

Strangely the chairs at the stage don't bother me like they do at other festivals. They get on my tits elsewhere but I suppose maybe it being more relaxed and less crowded at EOTR helps. Also they all seem to have disappeared at night unlike at Glasto.

I'd just like to say I did not enjoy Midlake at all when they played. I got bored and wandered off. Sacrilege.

Any news on how the tickets are selling?

I am reliably informed that the press release for The Decemberists' new single states that they will be coming to the UK in September!!!!!

And having now heard the new album I would desperately love them to play EOTR. It is fantastic. The Crane Wife was a step up but Hazards of Love is a massive leap.

i see in the latest issue of mojo that the rockingbirds are touring again they would be a great addition to eotr 2009.They released one of my favourite albums of 1992 ,their self titled debut was a country rock classic, glorious harmonies, lovely pedal steel, and memorable tunes it is about to get the deluxe rerelease treatment.I bet they wouldn't cost very much!

Is it size related? After all Latitude is way bigger than EOTR but doesn't have its own forum. Perhaps I have a different view because I just went and got Lat tickets without having read all the hoo-hah and I'm thinking of it in terms of the festival in itself rather than worrying about who's playing. It's the same reason I bought early bird EOTR tickets before they announced any bands - why worry ultimately who's playing when the festival itself is the reason for being there?

I haven't got the new Decemberists album yet but I have been listening back through Picaresque and The Crane Wife and is it just me who thinks the earlier stuff (Picaresque 2005) is better than the newer stuff (The Crane Wife 2006)?

I only say that because it seems that there are big plaudits for The Hazards of Love being a "step up" but in my opinion The Crane Wife was a "step down" so anything is an improvement!

Blabbering over
