Great for all those who are fans...

but i have got to say i really don't see the attraction to the Americana-style stadium rock stuff, it seems very mediocre and rather annoying, maybe that's unfair as I am unfamiliar with his stuff other than the massive hits, but i'd give him a miss.

Great news on Blur though.

A common misconception.

'Born in the USA' is certainly nothing to do with tub thumping patriotism, in fact it's totally the opposite.

It's about a soldier returning from Vietnam to a country that isn't interested in him or his future. It's actually quite bleak. Springsteen has always championed the blue collar workers of America and his roots are in US folk music. It's a real shame that everybody judges him on either Born in the USA or Dancing in the Dark.

ive seen him live 3 times and for me is the best live act in the world....

people dont realise just how amazing he is till they see him live...

i can garuntee if he is there it will be one of the best headliners of all time....

however still quite like to see radiohead...but the boss is the boss like.

  • 2 weeks later...

well, here's this thread back ...... I now think I'm in a position to explain......

This thread was seen by one of the senior Glasto staff, who got in touch with me off the back of it.

While that person has no involvement on any of the bands side (and so doesn't himself know who's playing), he knew from a convo he'd had with someone that does a week or so previous that leaks about who might be headlining had the potential to spoil whoever they were trying to line-up. He took it upon himself to contact me in the belief that such a certain statement as I'd made early in this thread might cause those problems, regardless of whether Springsteen was actually one of the acts they were talking to.

Because eFestivals has no wish to undermine what any festival is trying to do, it was agreed that it would be removed just in case it did cause the festival any problems. Because it was removed, a story had to be invented as cover, and that's what I gave for it's removal - a story.

I've never been contacted by anyone at Glasto in this way previously, and hopefully I won't be again - the whole thing was difficult at the eFestivals end, because we had to do down our own reputation for the benefit of Glastonbury Festival.

Before running the story that's been run today, I took the trouble to contact a senior glasto staff member who is in the loop about the bands to ask if running a story about the possible headliners (I didn't say the names, and he wouldn't have indicated one way or another anyway) still had the potential to have any act withdraw. He said that he didn't think it was likely as they're close to making the headliner agreements and are a long way down the path towards that; he also told me that as yet there is no full agreement with any act (and I believe him about this).

Anyway, I felt an explanation was deserved, so here it is. ;)

he does have a new album coming out in Jan, and is going on tour early in 09....

he'll get the time that Macca got...130 mins..his "Magic" tour shows were only 2.5 hrs, down from the longish 3 to 4 hrs from tours past,so this would keep it in line. Bruce doesn't do a "greatest hits" set. he does his own set lists, and they're never the same. it will be a huge guess and surprise as to what he plays at glasto, but he won't cater and do just a 'singles' setlist.

the only hickup i can see is that Max Weinberg's band is the house band for the Conan O'Brien show in the US, and Conan has been promoted to the prestigious Late Night show replacing Jay Leno. This is HUGE in the US, and the show is a huge investment for the NBC network. the run starts in June and it could be tough for Max to take any time off, which is why www.backstreets.com forums are predicting a tour that's finished by june.

but, late show takes place in LA 9again, this makes it more difficult than if it was done in NYC) taped in afternoon...i guess Max jumps on an overnight flight friday, arrives in UK saturday early afternoon and makes his way to Worthy Farm? jets back Sunday for the Monday taping. it'll work....

Can't Wait!!!
