I am very sad to be the bearer of bad news.

What important messages? What ideals? When I read in the thread about signing petitions to save jobs at vauxhall, it is abundantly clear that my definition of 'doing the right thing and playing our part in a global community' is very different.

Isn't it time for a radical new agenda, not just a repetition of the old left/right arguments? A better deal and job protection for workers in Ellesmere Port and then what? F**k the impact that work has on the environment? F**k the fact that it's just serving to support unsustainable western consumerism? F**k the fact it just maintains the west's unfair use of finite resources? Is that what we mean by 'doing the right thing and playing our part in a global community' (Im aware Im picking from different posts and its not meant to be a personal attack )

I feel that this thread should be less about what message we should be spreading and more about ensuring there is a platform [at the festival] for those with ideas to communicate their message. And for this we need ideas and actions, not further deliberation on what is right and wrong.

but I deliberately wanted it to be vague as to avoid the questionable policies of the unions which as you say can serve only to benefit their members and not the global community. And I’m not suggesting that signing a name on a petition is going to change the minds of the festival organisers.

You seem to be suggesting that the festival needs a platform for people who share your ideas to get them across. For me, the left has no more valid ideas about the way forward than do the tories, the bnp or ukip. Are you happy to share your platform - or have you already decided who is right and wrong hence no need for further deliberation?

You seem to be suggesting that 'the left' may mean the Labour party as they don't get a mention in your list of others. Perhaps you may have noticed the seismic shift in British politics over the last fifteen years or so? All of the reactionary/totalitarian bullshit is coming from New Labour. The Tories are in many ways more left than they are (God help us all). There has never been a time - at least in my lifetime - where the voice of the left has been more urgently in need of a platform. The thought of Leftfield being removed from the festival because it isn't commercial enough goes WAY past sad and into the realms of the truly scary.

If ideas like equality, social progression and egalitarianism are stale we are all, quite frankly, f**ked.

It's still there, in the Labour party, but masked by the New Labour "bullshit". New Labour has been caught with it's trousers down in a time when its meant to excel (although how it conducted itself during the good years was no better) I hope that its core values return in opposition, which is why I joined the party a couple of week ago.

As for no place to raise awareness of equality etc. at the festival. Why not do as people do in the streets at any other time of the year, do it in the walkways of Glastonbury. That would be Glastonbury returning to its roots. Might even give it back the "edge" that Eavis feels has been slightly lost. I'd be well up for it
