It's true that KOL have changed their sound to become more mainstream. I personally don't like the new album that much, I'm not gonna say they're shit now though just because I don't like one of their albums.

Anyway, Arctic Monkeys have, if anything, got less mainstream in their sound. The guy who said they were once good and now just a bland indie band has a classic case of "your" little band getting big, so you turn on them.

Listen to Y&YM back to back with OBTN, they've definitely changed and become a more 'stadium' type band. And Use Somebody is their poppiest song ever.

Whether it's intentionally to sell records or not is the only bit you can argue, but I think it is.

Their latest album definately seems to follow the 'stadium formula' employed by the likes of Coldplay, U2 et al. I can just see the fat record exec rubbing his hands together after his first listen.

There's plenty of people I work with who profess to loving KOL but think the first 2 albums are shit & Y&YM is just 'weird noise'

I dont think that at all, i think they developed rather than changed their sound and the incresed popularity was a result of that.

Some people just can't except a band becoming popular on merit.

I'd say they've stripped down their sound to an easily digestible and more commercially viable formula.

'Use Somebody' is a very accessible and easy-going song. It has none of the classic Kings of Leon hallmarks and it is the real proof of just how much they've moved away from what originally inspired them.

They're just not my thing mate. Subject matter, style and approach...just not for me.

They don't irritate me like a lot of bands...Razorlight for instance. "Uh, uh, oh...oh...trouble in America"...how f**king insightful.
