Kowalski
Story Loch Ness Bids For World Heritage Status Loch Ness and the Great Glen, one of the World's natural wonders, is launching a bid to become a World Heritage Site. As we have the privilege of presenting our festival in this stunning location, with a main stage backdrop that no other show in the world can compete with, we thought we would support the bid to get World wide heritage status for Loch Ness. If successful, the bid will position Loch Ness and the Great Glen alongside the Grand Canyon, Great Barrier Reef, The Taj Mahal and Scotland's own New Lanark and the Old City of Edinburgh, as one of 830 of the world's finest heritage sites. _Warriors Dance_
I work for a construction company that has an active site in Lanark at the moment. Seen as im in marketing I had to do some research on it. A World Heritage site is basically a man made place or site that has great inspiration to everyone around the world such as The Great Barrier Reef/Stonehenge even The Old City of Edinburgh! It may be deemed irreplaceable or threatened and has had "immeasurable benefits to mankind". All of course protected by the United Nations. New Lanark's Mill Manager, Robert Owen got rid of child labour and corporal punishment and provided all his workers with nice homes and a decent standard of living as well as schools, evening classes and free health care. This was kind of un heard of I guess. so i guess you could say he was a decent boss and this was pretty rare back then. This is the "inspiration to people world wide" I guess

-pogo-
New Lanark was one of a kind. It also launched a Co-Operative store for the people and had social wellfare before social wellfare came to being. I'm sure the owner then went to the USA and set up a town based on the principles of what now would be considered "communist", or the more acceptable bits perhaps.
