I was at Bestival when they walked on stage as surprise guests and they had a keyboard player with a Jerry style hat on so I couldn't work out if it was him or not (obviously it transpired that it wasn't) but not knowing didn't affect my enjoyment one bit.

Basically, they'll sound exactly the same, though their new stuff will obviously be affected by not having their usual songwriter:

It's a weird one - as I side issue they were very good, but I didn't enjoy them any more than the six or so times I've seen Neville play solo. Which is weird as Terry Hall has got a brilliant, unique voice.

The difference between comparing Joe Strummer and the likes of say Freddie Mercury, to Jerry Dammers and their respective bands, is that they can't be there. JD on the other hand can be, that's where the tinge of regret comes from. It's such shame he isn't there, but by the looks of it this is the best we're going to get.

I'll see them before Glasto anyway, and I'm sure I wont notice JD isn't there once the music starts. Just go along, enjoy yourself, you'll have a great time even thou JD is missing.

A year or so ago I went to see The Jam without Weller (From the Jam) andit was f**king brilliant.

Of course it wasn't even close to what the original Jam were like live, but being only 22 years old, I never had, and never will have the chance to see the real thing... I went knowing it was the closest id ever get.

I suppose what im saying is id much rather see The Specials without Jerry, than not at all. If he was there, fantastic, but its not going to happen so il settle for the next best thing. :P
