They headlined the second stage last time out, so why not have them 3rd/4th on the bill?

Whether it's FNM/GNR/Blink 182/Led Zep/The Beatles headlining, Korn won't be sub-headlining, so I don't really know what they've got to do with it.

One of Faith No More's last UK Festival dates (it may have been the last, I can't remember) was headlining the Phoenix Festival.

If they could headline that which wasn't even specifically a "rock" festival they can easily headline Download.

They never had particularly massive success in their home country but they were pretty huge throughout Europe.

I think the problem with fnm is awareness, alot of the younger/casual Download goers are only likely to have been exposed to a couple of songs, probably just "epic" and "easy" and maybe "we care a lot" not sure the "kerrang tv" generation have had much access to more than those songs

It's true. There're a lot of people on the forums who are saying something like "they're not big enough to headline because I don't know them." Which is fair enough on one level, but it's about more than that. The Kerrang generation might not *really* have known who The Pixies were, but they deserved their headlining slot at L/R. Without them, no Nirvana (to some extent). Without FNM, no half the bands the younger generation listen to now.

RATM, even. Not insignificant in terms of album sales, but most random people would have struggled to name more than 'Killing in the Name'. I saw that in the crowds: people mad to see them who - really - didn't know them at all and were just there because it was RATM.

Assuming they're doing a UK festival (I'd be shocked if they don't), it'll be Download.

Why would they play below two bands at Sonisphere, or Arctic Monkeys/Radiohead/Kings of Leon at R/L, when there's a major headline slot available to them.

And having agreed to do a headline slot, why would they THEN go on to not headline at another festival?

Download do have a history of having their headliner's play lower down at other festivals though.

Most famously and without excuse was My Chemical Romance who headlined Download and then played 4th down in one of the tents at T in the Park the same year.

I'm pretty sure that Feeder when they headlined Download played lower down the bill at other festivals that year but then you could argue that they only headlined due to Blink 182 spliting.

Lostprophets when headlining Download also played very low down the bill at V festivals the same year.
