Saw John Martyn supporting the Verve at Haigh Hall once. He wasn't well received and i distinctly remember a girl in the audience vociferously defending him as a 'legend'. She was absolutely right.

He was a great friend of Nick Drake and should be just as highly regarded as his mate.

A sad loss - i shall by sticking Head & Heart on my iPod the moment i finish work.

erm .... he should be regarded much MUCH higher.

Without Martyn, Drake would not have sounded as he did. Essentially, he lifted Martyn's sound.

"may you never" was one of the most beautiful songs. He's an artist who I always wanted to see live, and as such was really annoyed to find that when I was living in soton, I found out he was playing at the bottom of my road...a day after the gig.

he's got to be one of the most-ever "respected by musician's musicians". Those who played on his albums reads like a who's-who of top musicians.

Very sad news.

Every year there's someone who for some reason I fail to see at Glasto who promptly dies. Notably Johnny Cash and James Brown. Another one for my grim list.

He will be remembered... big time.
