I know this has been done before - a long long time ago i think and there are quite a lot of newbies on here now.

What bands around today that have and will be playing on the smaller stages could make the step up to playing one of the Pyramid headlining slots in the years to come?

I reckon that Radiohead might make it up there one day. Not yet mind. They've still got a bit to learn.

In the near future Arcade Fire after another album, assuming they want to do festivals again, as for currently small bands MGMT are possibilities if they make another 2 albums that live up to the first.

I'd recommend getting the weekly R1 Introducing (aka Unsigned) podcast with Huw Stephens.. Lots of bands that are on their way up are highlighted on his show a year or so before.. Last year at Glasto I caught Los Campesinos, Seal Cub Clubbing Club, Scouting for Girls and many others that were beginning to get some recognition and that I knew from his show, plus he covers the new stuff that will appear on the Introducing Stage. Id say, Arcade Fire, Glassvaves, MGMT, and Vampire Weekend. I loved VW's debut album, and they can headline if they live up to their potential.

Don't think they have even started work on it but I could be wrong. I know they did the music for a film called 'The Box' recently (I think that is what it was called) with Final Fantasys Owen Pallett. There is also a new track on the 'Dark of the Night' aids charity album which is coming out soon. Think the track is called Lenin or something. Check out the Dark of the Night myspace page for info (great compilation with The National, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, Bright Eyes etc)

Glasvegas ..... the only new band to really really excite me last year ,other stage headliner 2010? saw them at Queens Head last year from about three rows back outside and the end of flowers and football tops is one of the most beautiful live music experiences ive had in years cant wait for their manchester gig next saturday
