adjwholovesmusic
To be honest when i recently heard that Neil Young would probably be one of the headliners i was probably a little disapointed as having owned a couple of his records / CDs, i have never really been one of his biggest fans. But in true Glastonbury fashion i thought, hey you know what there has to be more to this Neil Young guy than meets the eye. So i dug out Harvest and played it a couple of times, sort of warmed to it, went out and got a copy of After the Goldrush and played it a couple of times and a couple of times more, and thought hey this is quite good, and hey presto after playing listening to the album for the 7th or 8th time, its been like hey presto, i really really like Neil Young. So to continue the story i picked up a copy of live Rust and Rust never sleeps and i have been totally converted. Live Rust is just absolutely fantastic. Anybody with any reservations as to whether he will be any good needs to listen to this live album and i'm sure your opinion will change. If Neil young does play Glastonbury then i will be right at the front no doubts about it! adjwholovesmusic

Sam Crawley
Point well made, adjwholovesmusic, I will give Neil Young another chance too. To be honest when I saw his name floating about I thought "rings a bell but no idea about the music" - I youtube'd, listened to a couple of tracks from the 70s (before my time!) and thought "this is bloody awful". I'll try some of the tracks mentioned in this thread and see if I warm to him! Although if he ends up clashing with BB King it's a bit immaterial

staggerlee
Usually he finishes his set with Day in the life as well. Think I would actually cry if I heard that by Young in Glasto. Edited February 4, 2009 by staggerlee

ralph250
doh, a few of those seem to have been removed due to complaints. Have a listen to the ones still there tho...
Woz06
To be honest I'd only 'seen' him on the 'Heart of Gold' film (which was fantastic though) before. The music on that was very mellow so I was BLOWN AWAY when I saw him in melbourne last week - he really rocked. I'll be SO disappointed if he doesn't play Glasto. adjwholovesmusic
I had the opinion that his music was mostly mellow and a bit laid back also and was really suprised when checking the albums i mentioned before there is a real edge to some of his music. I have been listening to Neil young properly now about 2 months and the first thing i thought of was how many people have been influenced by him. For starters Paul Weller must have been listening to early Neil Young when he recorded Wild Wood because there are definate similarities in the style of playing. I have really really suprised myself! Well perhaps i haven't because good music is good music and these ear's are i hope as open minded as they possibly can be when it comes to taking on board new sounds and enjoying them. adjwholovesmusic Edited February 4, 2009 by adjwholovesmusic
Craigston
Never heard any Neil Young but being as he's a proposed headliner, recorded a half hour session of his on BBC4 last night. Will check it out....

Wooderson
This is some recent Shakester that kinda slices my bagel. Not a patch on Kimmy's version though. Still pretty cool though. Edited February 4, 2009 by Wooderson
alframsey
Any chance of some Trans or Everybody's rockin? Id love to see Neil and the Shocking Pinks LOL! I think he should throw something in the mix that unexpected, like Computer Age, or summet.

mdp963
Unfortunately I don't think hes going to grab a chair and do anything like THIS at Glasto. But maybe!

ralph250
He does tend to normally do half acoustic and half electric rock and roll ...but very little of it is now in the classic early 1970s style
alframsey
I've watched it and I was less than impressed: very harsh on the ears vocals and harmonica. Sounded like he'd be more at home 3 from the top in the acoustic tent. Session was from 1971: my only hope is that he's improved in the last 38 years! Looks like the other stage will be my home come headliner time of night this year on two of the nights at least.
alframsey
A taster that is not a realistic selection of the set that he has played on recent tours / gigs He has in recent years become a bit ( sorry a bit more ) eccentric and you can never be sure what you are going to get He does tend to normally do half acoustic and half electric rock and roll ...but very little of it is now in the classic early 1970s style I was fortunate enough to see him several times in the late 60s and during the 70s ...when IMO he was just simply superb The experimental stuff of the 80s was not my cup of tea ...but now he is (for the most part ) back to his best styles It is difficult to know what he would choose to play for a limited Glastonbury set ... I hope it will be a greatest hist selection in the style of the 70s
sdaveak47
An acoustic set to headline the pyramid would be a complete disaster people would be leaving in droves (me included and i'm a fan) Once he launches into Hey Hey My My (which is normally his 2nd song) all the doubters will be rwon over, i'm sure he will play some acoustic stuff but it shouldn't be the majority of his set, Thats the thing about Neil Young is for every Heart of Gold or After the Goldrush theres a song like F**kin Up or Welfare Mothers but for people who are undecided onto where to spend their Friday Night at Glastonbury an old acoustic video of his more folky numbers isn't going to win anyone over
