glasto_mongrel_2008
Just thought i'd share this after browsing the Publican in the local this evening. There's an article (page 29 02/02/09) within which 'traditional' cider producers condemn the way that Brothers cider is supposedly going to affect the cider market as a whole. It basically states that because of Brothers infusing those beautiful fruit flavours into their drinks, it will cause a drastic downturn in sales and interest for the more 'traditional' ciders. The journalist goes on to state that this is exactly what the 'traditional' cider makers opinion was when certain brands started to introduce ice into their marketing campaigns. This however had the opposite effect than they were expecting and actually increased sales of the more 'traditional' brands. Now I'm not trying to start any sort of debate or discussion about the rights and wrongs of the views of either party. The main reason for me posting this is the response that Brothers gave to these claims. I think it's great and reading it has turned up another notch on the Glasto excitement scale for me. The response/battle cry is as follows; "So, at Brothers Drinks we have decided to take a brave stance. We accept we have been given full warning and therefore take full responsibility for our actions. We have girded our loins, stilled our fears and calmed our beating hearts as we embark upon that most daring of journeys. Yes we are going to give consumers what they want. And damn the consequences." If they printed that on a t-shirt, I'd buy one! The statement was made by a Nikki Langford who is the trade marketing manager for Brothers

glasto_mongrel_2008
possibly, though its probably a tad too long *attempts to find a suitable quote* Each sentence could work on its own, possibly the latter half would work better though

popcornmaster
I think the first part works best; "We have girded our loins, stilled our fears and calmed our beating hearts as we embark upon that most daring of journeys!" glasto_mongrel_2008
Ye i was torn between that and "we are going to give consumers what they want. And damn the consequences" the former does work better really

strudders
To be fair to brothers I don't tend to drink the flavoured varieties. I do spend quid a bit of cash there, however I also spend the same if not more at the Cider bus. In fact I will do a pie chart My consumption is as follows:
darrenbha
Strudders. Your pie charts rock. I think they should produce a festi strength strawberry as a special edition

darrenbha
Last time i looked the strawberry definitely displayed a lower percentage and they also had normal strength pear at brothers bar. I may be wrong tho
mikeb
I think all the 'flavours' in bottles are 4%, only the bottled pear festi-stength is, erhm, 7% festi strength ! But in Jazz world, it's festi-strengh all the way ... so well worth kinda bearing that li'l detail in mind if you're only used to drinking the 4 or 4.7% stuff Edited February 4, 2009 by mikeb
popcornmaster
Isn't it slightly weaker than festival strength at glastonbury they use festival strength as the base but the syrup they use dilutes it so its lower not sure if my numbers are correct but something along the lines 7% pear festi 6.3% strawberry/lemon
mikeb
Yeah, that's true, it must be slightly less than 7% as there's stuff being added. What I meant was it's based on 7% and so the end result is likely to be closer to 7 than 4 that's all. Surprised it's ~10% less though but I've no idea how much stuff is actually put in or what the end result is so could well be.
