I think Ive said it already in this thread, but whenever anyone who is also camping at CT is going down to the real ale tent, let me know!

this will be my 4th glasto and until reading this thread I didnt even know there was one!

this will have to be rectified this year.

I did think it was odd that somewhere like glasto didnt have a proper ale bar.

I was on the Abbot Reserve at the weekend, now that is a beer I would not recommend as the default ale for the fest, things would get a bit messy! I was wobbly after two pints!

to give this topic a bump...

Is it true (this applies to any form of alcoholic drink) The more the alcohol content, the greater the tax ? Someone was saying to me the other day that Carlsberg - or some other generic larger - was lowering it's alcohol content to bring down it's price.

No idea why I've been so late to pick up on this thread ... as two of Glastonbury's leading ale enthusiasts, festivaldeb and I were FREQUENT attenders at the Red Flag last year ;):P

And we'll be back ... many times ....

Impressive anti-WBC rant by Dave F earlier, I share a lot of his reservations and criticisms. Dave F, if you're still about, was it back stage at JazzWorld that was taken over by the WBC? The choice of beer (and atmosphere) backstage there was definitely inferior in 2008 to how it was in 2007, as far as I remember ... </crew intalk :P >

Worth it for all ale enthusiasts to know though that the management of the Red Flag is by no means fully controlled by the WBC, it's run semi independently of them I think I heard from an insider ... can't remember details though. And as so many have said, the choices there are fantastic! :P

Hope to link up with some of you this year. Proper beer is SERIOUSLY where it's at :D

For the budget drinker who's bringing supplies in, IMO canned Tanglefoot is best Value pound for ABV percentage, remember it's 5% and less than £4= for 4 at the main supermarkets, very acceptable taste too!

(No doubt we'll have some scrumpy to bring in as well ... :P )

We're off to a CAMRA meeting here in Swansea later this evening, as festivaldeb is Chairwoman and Queen of the Swansea Bay Beer Festival, happening over the start of August Bank Holiday weekend if any of you plan to be in South Wales at that time! </plug!>

Can some one please confirm the Red Flag is open on the Wednesday lunchtime ?

If so then I'll be there around 12 ish before heading down to the Pyramid for Hobo and the Junkyard Dogs at three followed by a World Cup football Final involving England at 4

Wow, it's not often you can say that

So there you have it, if the Red Flag is open at 12 on Wednesday, I'm now proclamining an official meet, so far the list is....

Me !

hope more can join me, but I'm not gonna bother making a list or anything,

Noon, Red Flag - Wednesday,

I'll welcome mobile numbers by PM nearer the day for text exchanges.

if you fancy going to the red flag on the thursday or after the footie on the wednesday, then +1 me too.

I just dont fancy drinking a few good pints, then playing footie and throwing it all back up again...such a waste of good beer!

Unless it changes this year then The Red Flag bar won't be open until Thursday. :D

Last year's times (and from memory previous years as well):

Red Flag - Open Thursday 12pm-12am Then daily from 11am-12am

It doesn't always seem to open on time Thursday lunchtime either - perhaps the staff training takes longer than expected?

Spent a very relaxing time in Dorset last weekend, made even more enjoyable through the availability of Otter Ale & Bitter at the bar downstairs in my hotel. Never had it anywhere outside the Fest so was over the moon and spent far too much time sampling its delights! My girlfriend was not best pleased... :O

Also went to the Water Rats last night to see The 1990's, and they were serving Spitfire - probably the most enjoyable drinking I've experienced at a gig venue!

Ah, but that depends on how quickly you drink it!

We took down a 20 litre polypin of Gem from Bath Ales & pick up a 20 litre of Mine Beer Blindmans brewery on the way down. Both good beers.

Tins - I go for London Pride & Bass, but of course not as good as tap.

With bottles I've never understood why they make the equivalent beer stronger. If a brew is a different strength they should give it a different name.

The Red Flag is great. but sometimes they seemed short of staff.

Never got up to the Bimble last year.

How long has it been at G. now?

<rant on>

OK the WBC are, in my mind, a bunch of W**kers & should be kicked off site.

They don't understand that there are workers on both sides of the bar. Charging so much & providing little choice is insulting to the people they claim to represent.

They took over a backstage bar from an independent because it was doing so well. They went to ME & whinged that it wasn't fair.

They closed the bar at 11:30 at night!

Remember this was for backstage, where many of the performers who camped there didn't finish working until 1-2 in the morning! Ripping of the workers.

They sold & charged the same as they did to in the on-site bars until a certain Ms Churchill had a word in their ear. Again ripping of the workers!

A couple of years ago they handed it back to ME as it was do so badly (they couldn't work out why!) & is now back being run very successfully independently, except all supplies have to order through the WBC.

They tried to prevent certain drinks being ordered because they thought were too strong & would lead to the ruin of the reputation of Glastonbury by having a load of drunks wandering all over the place!!

Again a quiet word (well, more like telling them where to go) got them to change their minds.

They really do think they're God's gift.

<rant off>

We've looked into having a go at brewing our own down there, but the brewing process seems too long.
