Well on GMTV weather this morning they just said "warming up for next week" and a RED circle over the SW with 25 on it. That's good enough for me!

25 what ? Apples ? Pears ? Oranges ? As my old lecturers would say ... units are *very* important and it's nil points even if you have the right number when you forget to be specific about what they are :( Sooooo, degrees, centimetres/inches or knots ? ... kinda makes a difference ya know :P

Good old metcheck is looking like less sun and more widdle again today :P Think I'll be looking at yesterdays full-on sun all the way forecast instead until they update it again to reflect what is required !

Got a brief forecast this morning from a friend who's a forecaster at the metoffice. It's still not looking too bad:

"It's looking dry with some sunshine and probably getting gradually hotter too. Small risk of some thunderstorms towards the end, but looks like you'll be needing plenty of sun cream and stuff to stay cool!"

latest unisys:

this is for precipitation [i.e.rain], which is ther patches of purple:

http://weather.unisys.com/gfsx/9panel/gfsx...9panel_eur.html

so, all week and sat looks fine. sunday not. sat night might be a humdinger but there again it's too far ahead to say what will really happen.

this is the pressure version of the above:

http://weather.unisys.com/gfsx/9panel/gfsx...9panel_eur.html

what is interesting is that the encroachment of a low keeps being pushed back, which means there's uncertaintly over the high shifting any great deal, which is good news so far if you dislike flooding :-)

what looks certain if these charts are right is that hot will encroach form the south on the fri or sat.

Last year looked like becoming a washout on Thursday evening, when the mud appeared under the weight of rain and all those feet. One of my mates looked close to tears as he said, "Aww, why does it always have to do this?"

The next day the sun came out, and whether it was the improved drainage that Eavis always talks about, or the fact that the ground hadn't seen much rain leading up to the festival, the mud dried up and it was Converse All-Stars time for the rest of the festival.

Who would have thought on Thursday night that we'd be watching Leonard Cohen in our t-shirts as the sun set in the most glorious fashion over the last day of the festival?

I'm taking waterproofs, no question of that whatever the forecast says, but I'm quietly optimistic. Even the worse forecasts at the moment sound no worse than last year, which was really good overall IMHO.

Note that Countryfile is now on Sunday at 19.00 apparently. As every glastoweathergeek knows, the farmer's forecast, or "Weather for the Week Ahead" is a key moment in any build-up, and now it's on in the evening, so can legitimately be watched as sport with a beer in my hand.

CountryfileSunday 21 June

7:00pm - 8:00pm

BBC1

Matt Baker and Jules Hudson head for Exmoor to discover how the native ponies are being given a new lease of life, and what's being done to protect crayfish from foreign invaders. John Craven investigates the decline of some of our favourite farmland birds, and it's a tense time down on the farm as Adam Henson finds out if his prize cattle are finally clear of TB. And plant expert James Wong is in Dorset to find out if he has what it takes to win the World Nettle Eating Championships.

VIDEO Plus+: 3179

Subtitled, Widescreen

Followed by Weather for the Week Ahead

Metcheck are definitely on drugs!

Compare the Glastonbury event forecast

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/event_...asp?eventID=559

to the forecast for Worthy Farm's postcode

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/7days....pcode=BA4%204BY

The postcode one shows rain on the thursday and friday, but the event forecast shows none!

EDIT: and compare that to the "Sticky" for the festival

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/OTHER/stick...=6&dayNum=6

Which shows non stop rain for friday to sunday.

So three different forecasts for the same place!

IF there is any hint of rain at any time over the entire festival, I propose that we all gather in the Pyramid field - yes all 180,000 of us, point at the offending cloud and shout, "Oi, Niederschlag, No!" until it goes away.

that should fix it.
