Flags for Glasto 2009

It should be okay, my flag survive the downpour on the Thursday last year!!

The lettering is painted, I printed out the words from the computer and traced through the flag and then painted them, I did the main body of the colour first left it to dry overnight and then painted around them in black. I did the ROW letters with green fabric pen and found it ran a bit so the rest were done with Dylon fabric paint (the stuff in the pots!)

Hope this helps!! :P

I LOVE flags! We bought one of the smiley faces flags last year and we took it everywhere, it is a great way to find people quickly. This year we are gonna make a few changes to it and buy a proper strong pole as it took quite a battering from the crowd :D I allways take into consideration others around me and try not to annoy anybody. :D

hmm just been looking at this thread. wasn't thinking of taking a flag but i never realised how cheap they were to make!

what pole would you recommend using? the telescopic ones? and what height is best for the cheapest price for spotting your tent? i'm looking at the skyblue site btw. do they take long to deliver? i'm hoping i've got enough time to make one what with exams and everything up until a couple of days before the fest!

You need loads more white paint than you do for colours because the white has go on quite thickly. I used the best part of a pot of white for my flag (to do the eyes, nose and lettering) and I hardly used any black. Depending on how bold your design is, you may need two or three pots of white. That said, a white-on-black sounds pretty neat so I think you should do it!

I'd recommend the telescopic poles, and I'd say that 5m is the right length if you're on a budget. Any shorter than that and your flag won't be much higher than the top of the tents. Skyblue deliver pretty quickly -- you should have you stuff within a week.

There is some bloody good flags being made this year, I love this thread. I feel a little envious as I haven't made one for about 6 years and I love the pastime as Glastonbury draws near.

I reckon this year will probably be the last for my ageing rag...
