I agree. Unfortunately i think we can rule Gn'R out (unless they announce a shit hot special guest with them).

I also can't see it being a genuinely massive, stadium filling, mainstream band (Aerosmith, AC/DC, Foo Fighters, Muse, Bon Jovi), so in order to justify the hype it'd have to be someone that the Download fans will go apeshit for.

For some reason i don't really understand, that seems to be Rammstein. Though you do get the impression on the Download forums that most people just say they want Rammstein to fit in, i certainly don't consider them a big band.

To be honest I haven't listed to much Rammstein myself, but every time I have looked at the forum, here and on the main, people seem to saying what an amazing show they put on, and for me thats half of the appeal of seeing a live band, so if they are anywhere near as good as people say then thats good enough for me...

Another option would be if its more than just one band to make it worth the hype, for example maybe two bands, one headliner, one as the special guests (with I'm assuming Crue playing 3rd) so maybe two of the banded around as being not justified to headline on thier own... Like Heaven & Hell with special guests Manowar for example, or the other way around...

Hmm... now I have said that I'm not sure what I'd rather, one mahusive headliner or 2 pretty damn decent co-headliners... ^_^

i sure hope its rammstein.

they would be a massive coup for download, as they have never headlined a uk festival before, they've never even headlined their native rock am ring festival!

Absolution is amazing. Everything else? Not so much.

Anyway, while they are a massive band these days, you can't really imagine them persuading many people on the fence about coming to Download to buy tickets.

GnR are headlining a Spanish festival on the 20th with Crue, Papa Roach, Manson and various other bands who are either playing Download already or are dead certs to be confirmed at a later date. So you'd have to imagine they're the favourites at this point. I'll still stick my neck out and say it won't be though.

Thats complete bullcrap. What happened is this, the stage was a mess after Cradle of Filth got bottled earlier. Axl had injured his back at a show in Europe earlier in the week, and was in fact advised by a doctor to take it easy and perhaps consider not even doing the show. Anyway the did the show, but as previously mentioned the stage was soaked after Cradle and Axl slipt 3 times on stage, the third time he nearly fell over completely, at which point he went backstage and asked for the stage to be cleaned up and some carpet put down, he also changed his shoes for a pair with better grip and then went back onstage.
