Is anyone under the age of 25 feeling underwhelmed by the lineup so far?

im underwhelmed kind of, but theres like 3 bands been announced so far, so the odds were i wouldnt like them. I think i will see blur but im not a big fan, just know and like a few of their songs. Its true glastos not all about the music, but music is my main passion in life so a lot of glasto for me is about the music. But glasto never dissappoints with the line up, so i have faith. But you cant deny that bruce and blur are good and worthy headliners its just a matter of taste

yep i am underwhelmed with supposed headliners on the 2 main stages acts at the moment

and a quite a few of the major rumours, they are certainly aimed at the older market.

Saying that i wasn't passionate about any of the pyramid headliners last year nor the year before

(saw KOL last year to see if there was still any atmosphere from the 1st 2 albums left with them (there wasn't) before losing hope and letting them be charted off by top shop/nme)

Still there are some great acts/rumours

Madness

Specials

The White Stripes

Fatboy Slim (who i should have seen instead of KOL)

Bon Iver

Holding out for Depeche mode

and i'll probably catch Blur for a good sing song assuming nothing better is on

Obviously to most people at Glastonbury the music DOES matter quite a lot, but I really don't understand why people have such an issue with whether they're going to have their favourite acts on the pyramid... I mean just because it's bigger really doesn't make it better.

And I do think it's a shame that it's "anyone under the age of 25 feeling underwhelmed...", kind of implying that young people don't have music taste outside a specific set of acts, and that older people don't enjoy newer music.

Unfortunately from my own experience I know people (close friends) that have literally said that they want to see the headliners because they'll have more chance of getting on TV and they can tell people about it when they get home... I just think that ignoring the rest of the festival is a real shame.

I'm a 21 year old first timer who's not a huge Bruce or Blur fan (love Neil Young though). Even though I'm not a huge fan, I realize that these are all established acts that are well deserving of a headline slot, and it speaks very well for glasto that they can get such acts. There will be so many acts playing that you can always find someone else to watch or take a break from the shows and enjoy other parts of the fest. Don't sweat the headliners! ;)

what line up?

only a few acts have been confirmed and 2 of them are headliners for the pyramid stage.

the festival is so big with so many stages and acts that you will never be dissapointed, all this talk of feeling underwhelmed and that the line up so far is crap is utter bollocks ;)

It's mine and my mates first Glasto this year, and I know people are going to say it's not all about the music, but I am really really underwhelmed by the lineup and the headliners so far.

After last years with the Verve, Kings of Leon etc, I was hoping for more of the same. But I couldn't care less about Springsteen or Neil f***ing Young. Blur are OK

Please announce someone whose relevent to today!!!

I'd even take a Coldplay at the moment and thats saying something.

Im 24 and ive said it before but give my Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Blur over any of the current 'new' generation headliners. (Im talking about - Killers, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, etc).

The supposed lineup for me is just imense, I mean the prospect of seeing BB king, Fleetwood mac, Bruce, Neil young, is incredibly exciting (For me). Its not as if im going to see these guys play glasto again either is it?

Can't wait!!

Not a big fan of any of the three for Glasto but at least it's not the any 3 headliners from 10 that every other festival seems to go for.

I've got to be honest and say I am a little underwhelmed, but then again I wouldn't watch any of the current BIG bands either (Snow Patrol, the killers etc.). I'm just waiting for them to start announcing bands like Pendulum, faithless and the chemical brothers.

I'm VERY pleased they've got Florence and the Machine in the line up, though. One of my favorite bands! ;)

I still don't think NME have much sway on people's music tastes.

Oasis get continually raved about in nme; Oasis win 'Best British band' voted for by the readers of nme; Oasis get treated in other media as gods off the back of it.

Oasis go to get their 'Best British band' award, and there's booos from the audience.

Here's betting that nme's love affair with Oasis is now over because of that (we'll get to see over the coming months).

Let's see just how long they continue to be regarded as gods (via airplay, and tix sales), and how many more "I've always hated Oasis" comments suddenly start to appear in the same way the anti-madge posts have in the last six months when she's suddenly fallen out of fashion. :D

Obviously NME have their part to play in this, but they have to sell magazines, and having a 60 year old or someone no one has heard of on the front cover, isn't going to make the magazines sell well.

they seem to do pretty well with a certain pair of over 40s on the cover almost monthly. ;)

And isn't it 'funny' how real shite like Gossip are suddenly a fantastic band after being lauded by nme?

NME probably have less impacts on people's tastes because you can't hear the actual music. Radio 1, T4 etc have much more influence.

where do you think they take their lead from.....? :P

pretty sure there's roughly about 1000 acts over about 50 stages at glasto, with many acts performing multiple times (correct me if I'm wrong neil).....I can guarantee that the older generation acts will be a very small proportion compared to contempary acts once all is announced.

My view of things (I'm 25):

Before the festival last year Eavis spoke of pulling in the younger crowd, (to the annoyance of some oldies feeling less welcome), and the lineup reflected that imo being very comtemporary.

have a look, especially the friday pyramid, the other stage, park etc:

http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/glastonbury/2008/

I think last year was successful in bringing in the new crowd (who will return), but I think GFL also won't want to lose the older generation that has always supported the festival, and so need to make them feel there's adequate acts to cater for them also.

The younger generation are more than catered for at glastonbury imo with the other stage, john peel stage, park stage, bbc introducing etc, all weighted heavily towards modern bands. The pyramid is probably 60-70% contemporary aswell, and even the jazzworld has snippets (eg estelle and lupe fiasco last year).

Whilst the jazzworld, acoustic and avalon is perhaps more weighted the other way, logistically with two of those being tents, the larger acts couldn't play them, but the older generation shouldn't feel excluded of the chance to have the bigger acts that will appeal more to them. Whilst the jazzworld is pretty big, it's not got the capacity of the pyramid or other, so logistically the same problems would exist.

I'm guessing this year GFL are looking more for a 50/50 split on the pyramid which I think will be fairer.

...and at the end of the day, how many more new bands are there, than older acts still going/reformed....there'll be loads for those worried currently and if not go to the circus tent and watch a trapeze artist doing the hula hoop one footed on a tightrope whilst playing a stunning violin solo. ;)

*Please don't take any of that above to reflect that generations can't appreciate new/old music*

I'm 21 and have no problem with the line-up although I don't like Neil Young or Bruce Springsteen. I won't see either of them and with 1000 acts over dovens of stages I'm sure to find something I like. It's not about relevance, it's about preferance.

Its been said before.

But there are no headliner quality young acts that havent headlined in the last 3 years.

And its been said 1000 times before. Every band that the youff listen to and dont have egos big enough to only play the top 2 on pyramid, will be there.
