Is anyone under the age of 25 feeling underwhelmed by the lineup so far?

Its been said before.

But there are no headliner quality young acts that havent headlined in the last 3 years.

And its been said 1000 times before. Every band that the youff listen to and dont have egos big enough to only play the top 2 on pyramid, will be there.

to the original poster: I know exactly how you feel, but don't worry. Most of the younger "relevant" bands haven't been announced because they are virtually a dead cert. Playing at Glasto is usually too much of an honour for new British bands to pass up on. The reason why big-name older acts are being announced early is because these are guaranteed to appeal to the broadest range of people.

The other thing that's funny is that last year's headliners sound great in hindsight, but beforehand there were fears that Glasto had totally lost it. I certainly wasn't expecting Kings of Leon to join the rock aristocracy, but now they're the sort of band you wouldn't be surprised to read about in the Times or the Telegraph. A lot of that is down to Glasto taking a risk and putting them on a bigger stage than they'd ever played before. I thought their set was great. Some people say they just ran through the songs and didn't interact, but hey, they were really tight, with great songs, and the sound shimmered up that hill, leaving me in a good place for the rest of the weekend. Jay-Z was an experience not to be missed; maybe they plumped for the wrong rapper, but the hip-hop idea was fundamentally a good one. And the Verve set was a classic.

As for this year... Springsteen is not my cup of tea, but he fits pretty well with what you expect from the Saturday slot. Blur are definitely a match for the Verve. And we still don't know the other headliner(s), so I don't know if you can really complain much yet. In terms of "relevance", Jay-Z might be younger, and he might be black, but Springsteen has a lot more to do with what's going on in the States politically at the moment. Jay-Z raps about bitches and bling; Springsteen sings about men returning home from war and blue collar workers losing their jobs. Anyway, when the full line up is released I reckon you'll be pretty excited.

I do, though, disagree with people who say Glasto isn't about the Pyramid stage. Yeah, you shouldn't spend too much time there. And yeah, it's full of the lowest common denominator acts (and, sometimes, lowest common denominator people). But really it's the heart of the festival. The truly great performances happen there, and it's for a few simple reasons: the sound is huge, the crowd is massive, and the sets are epic. It's the best venue in the world. You can get a great view going back all the way up the hill. Think of it as a place for special occasions -- if you spend all your time there you'll watch a lot of dross and miss out on the wonderful variety on offer elsewhere. But please don't get the impression that the Pyramid is soulless or too mainstream for serious music fans. There are no prizes for watching an obscure band by yourself while 90,000 people are having the time of their lives in music paradise.

And stop worrying about the line up!! It's the weather you wanna be fretting about!!

Have never really understood the fascination with contemporary music...i listen to most of the hip stuff that comes out and alot of it is excellent...and i attend gigs by new bands on a regular basis.by the same token i listen to a huge amount of "older "music-classical right up to 90's stuff (i'm applying the notion that newer music is of this decade) and also go see the older bands/artsists in the live arena. Ever since i started listening to music i've placed no differentiation between genres or contemporary and older music....i apologise for taking the "i'm so open minded approach" but my point is good music is good music and i'm never underwhelmed by good music...and there will be plenty of good music at glasto this year including stuff which people under 25 will like believe it or not....

I'm 23 and delighted with the line-up. I like to keep an open mind to all different genres and ages of music so it's great to see the likes of The Specials, BB King and Bruce Springsteen alongside acts like Florence & The Machine and Bon Iver amongst the rumours and confirmations.

Questions in the title.

It's mine and my mates first Glasto this year, and I know people are going to say it's not all about the music, but I am really really underwhelmed by the lineup and the headliners so far.

After last years with the Verve, Kings of Leon etc, I was hoping for more of the same. But I couldn't care less about Springsteen or Neil f***ing Young. Blur are OK

Please announce someone whose relevent to today!!!

I'd even take a Coldplay at the moment and thats saying something.

Whilst reunions often get slated as cashing in; making money in music has completely changed in light of the t'internet.

Bands aren't making so much money on cds/royalties now; consequently most new bands have to survive by gigging as much as they can, and for the bands that reform, if anyone here had their income stream decreased radically as much as I'd suspect happened with the increased prevalence of piracy, then I'd guess they'd want to reform and get a few paydays for their future too, both themselves and for their offspring.

...and for some of them I guess it's a case of doing what they once enjoyed so much, playing music with people they once connected with.

Personally I don't have a problem with acts reforming. if I had less money coming in and had started a family, I'd probably do the same.

All of what you just said is completely valid it is however, Blur. They were pre internet and illegal downloads. Over the decade they were around they were massive, only surpassed by Oasis in the Brit Pop era so I am pretty sure they sold enough legit albums to be 'reasonably comfortable' lol

I'm 20 and I couldn't be more excited about the line-up, though that is including the rumors as well. Blur alone is enough to make me happy. Hell, I booked my flight before I even checked this website and only knew that Blur might show up (the trip also included their Hyde Park date), so anything on top of Dan Abnormal & crew is really just icing on the cake.

im 19 and if white stripes are playing im happy as but yes i agree im underwhemled completely by the headliners

I think this is simply a matter of age though, their isn't an argument

Older people will be happy because they grew up with bruce, neil ect while most younger people obvously didn't and would rather see acts they grew up with.

I'm quite happy with some of the announcements/rumours and I am 25. But then the lineup isn't so important to me.

This will be my first Glasto and I will be going with my girlfriend. I'm kinda glad that the first Glastonbury I'm going to is with her as I think she'd make a great Festival companion. I'm really looking forward to getting there and experiencing it all.

Her and I will also be going to V Festival (I got an early bird ticket back in August). Now at the moment I wish I hadn't purchased one (or had been able to book holiday better at work and then sell ticket on ebay). This is because although Oasis and the Killers would be enjoyable I would love to go to Sonisphere or Bloodstock instead :P. I know I'll still have fun at V (we'll probably join the Efest camp there (which was great last year)). Guess I'll have to go see Nine Inch Nails this year (fingers crossed for tour dates) to make up for it.
