GlastoEarth 2009 Preliminary

Here at last. If you've got GlastoEarth, just fire up Google Earth, see the new 2009 banner, and dive in!

If you've not got GlastoEarth, or don't see the 2009 banner, go to www.glastoearth.com and download the map.

New in GlastoEarth

So, welcome to the fledgling GlastoEarth Museum, in the Bonus Features section. Ever wondered how the festival has grown? The museum shows perimeters right back to 1979, as well as a few bits and bobs like the aerial photo that shows the final travellers field in in 1999 (we think!). Was there a perimeter in 1971? Do tell :)

Across the map, there's a ton of changes. Many are small, such as new photos and text, but there's also new videos, including Elbow and - who else - Jay-Z

Festival changes for 2009

It's early days yet, but things are evolving. Trash City is expected to split across the railway track, with Pip Rush's Arcadia Spectacular gas monsters heading south.

GlastoEarth is, for now, labelling last year's area as Trash City North (home of the original Mutoid work), and the new area as Trash City South, where Arcadia, we think will end up.

Shangr-La shrinks a little, but appears to be reinventing itself, and we hope to hear from them before the festival.

Elsewhere? Left Field (yes, it *is* two words, in this context :D ) is currently gone this year, but the GlastoEarth speculation (and that's really all it is), is that they'll back. There's a big emotional tie, we reckon, between the festival and the area. In that respect, both are probably missing a beat at the moment. In the interim, something will have to fill that very big hole by the main meeting point.

Like the line-ups, we can only go on best current informationm, but we're expecting a few shuffles in the Dance Village, and whilst many of the WBC bars are in stable spots, a few - as we've heard here on the forum - may be consolidated.

The map shows what GlastoEarth is fairly confident of, but no guarantees.

What's next?

For April, there's a big treat coming on the map. It's a *map* thing, not a 2009 festival thing, but the GlastoEarth elves reckon you'll have some fun. Oh and of course, if we're told about festival changes, they'll be included too.

Thanks a bundle for the tips, corrections and general enthusiasm. It's the best festival in the world, so it's all worth it.

Roll on June :)

PS And (festival virgins in particular) don't forget that GlastoEarth has the FAQ now.... all updated for this year.
