Sam Crawley
Has anyone got Google Latitude working yet? It's part of the latest version of Google Maps on your phones, and lets you see (subject to giving permission) where all your mates are (live) on a map. Was thinking it would be a brilliant way of finding mates at Glasto, assuming everyone's batteries are up to the job (I know mine wouldn't be..). Would be especially amazing if it hooks in with paulo999's GlastoEarth map and the Orange stage schedules: Picture the scene - what are you going to see next? - Quick glance at phone - bunch of mates are over at the Other Stage watching Elbow but it's Scouting for Girls on next there.. hang on.. that girl you met on the coach down is up at Park and there's a secret gig on next. Here we go... Glasto 2020 stuff maybe... until then... look for the Orange Autobot flag!
Katster
Personally I hardly use my phone at Glastonbury. I prefer random encounters. Call me old fashioned but I don't really mind not being with my friends whilst watching a band I guess it's a good idea if you like to be with your pals a lot though and have a tendancy of losing them
dunc55
unless you are on orange, phones are still a pain at glasto, difficult to get through text or connecting to the internet.

benisright
Also, in the future it would be great to have an idea where my kids are when they are old enough to roam free around the site. I doubt they will agree though

eFestivals
why not spend the 5 days with your phone switched off, and lose yourself in the fest? I know, I know - there's just too many people that JUST HAVE TO be able to be in contact with you at any minute of every day of your whole existence, and the whole world would stop if you turned your phone off for even just an hour. benisright
Only reason i take my phone is to keep in touch with people at the fest. If i bugger off on my lonesome to see one band whilst my mates go somewhere else, its handy to have a phone to meet up with them later. Paul ™
I can't believe people are saying you 'need' your phone. Sure it's handy at times, but it's just as easy to meet back up at camp or pre-arrange a meeting spot. What did you people do before mobiles came along? TheBoyInTheBubble
"Look we're online with the mixing desk and the bass player, I'll wait until you come back from the bar. Look for the duck on a stick" is my preferred method of meeting up. My phone stays hidden away in my tent just to be checked last thing at night. staggerlee
I don't know why you techno-phobes get so irate about others using mobile phones at the festival. Although I enjoy the freedom of not having to speak or think of the outside world for five days, keeping in touch with your friends/loved ones does not take the magic or spontaneity away from Glastonbury. Personally we just use meeting points but we did lose a friend on Saturday night last year, it would of been fine if he didn't have all the drink and money. Charley333
Am in two minds... On one hand, it was great last year being out of reach of "real world" for 4-5 days esp with Glasto's very own newspaper! But did need to use the mobile to contact people around the site... (handy at stupid o clock when you have no idea where anyone is and also used it to gloat about how I was lying in the sun drinking Brothers and listening to awesome music while they were in the "real world" getting these annoying texts at work! 18Alex18
But you see, you're all arguing against mobile phones at Glastonbury because it's "against the spirit of Glasto". But, if you don't have mobile phones, you have to arrange these meeting spots and times, which does NOT fit in with the Glastonbury spirit, because sometimes you come across something that makes you change your plans, you'll want to make spontaneous decisions. Having a mobile phone allows this spontaneity, because you don't have to worry about your friends anxiously waiting for you before they go to that band you said you'd see with them.
