I prefered them before their new album come out, its just gone and made them commercial and too popular for my liking, as you have chavs walking around saying they love "sex on fire" when they clearly dont have a clue about the band !

Love KOL, seen them 5 times. They're not the best live & they're sound doesn't play well in big arenas or outside venues. Much better in smaller rooms. The last album was the drizzling shits & sounds like formulaic stadium rock. The audience on the last tour was full of piss throwing c**ts & chavs.

To be fair I can def understand why people have gone off them. Thier last album was rubbish, really bad, which is enough to put some people off, plus they have obviously become so big just going to see them now is much more expensive. So basically people who liked thier earlier stuff and don't like thier newer stuff now have to pay a lot more to see them in less intimate venues playing a lot of songs they don't like. Plus the fact there will be many more twats at the gigs is a small factor but can be an issues, it is a bit music snobbish but that sort of things can ruin the atmosphere of the gig.

Plus I do feel the reason for the last album being bad is they change thier sounds just to become a huge band, which is kinda sad for a band that can make good music and were pretty succesfull already.

I can't ever imagine going to see them live at thier own gigs again tho would watch them a festival if nothing else was on.

Tho yeah, if people don't like them just because they have gotten big then that is pathetic.

I for one persoanally think they are a great headliner and I dont believe anyone could fairly contest their right to do so.

They are an extremely good live band, they have sold plenty of albums and they are extremely popular like it or not you cant deny it.

Yeah it is annoying about all the dates they will be playing beforehand but meh doesnt make them any less worth watching

Completely 100% agree. Why should the old fans stop enjoying them just because they are popular? I know so many people like this and it is very sad that they aren't ahhpy for a great band doing really well.

I reckon Molly's chambers is still their most well known song, at least thats the one that by far gets the best reaction live.

I'm glad they are headlining and definitely think they deserve it, but I think it's a shame that the last 2 albums are what got them there. There first 2 were easily their best and I thought the 3rd was very good as well, not up to par with the original 2, but still. And the newest one really isn't up to their standard.

I think you've misunderstood the meaning of the thread.

It wasn't to debate whether Kings Of Leon could headline,it was whether it was a good choice, which most people don't think it was for precisely the reason that you have gone on to list.

Also the fact they will have played every other major British and Irish festival in the past 14 months by the time Reading comes around, have already had one British arena tour last year aswell as this, their new album disappointed many origional fans and the type of fan they attract these days is the type that many of the origionals dispise.

So...still a good choice?Doesn't make me want to part with my money.

I'm a big fan, and I completely agree. I just hope they have got it out of their system now, and look more towards a Youth & Young Manhood / Aha Shake Heartbreak direction for the 5th album, or even a step back towards Because of the Times would be good. If they're true to themselves and go for that rather than another money making arena filling album I will have a lot more respect for them.

The day they leave Sex on Fire out of the setlist is the day I'm waiting for. Massive respect if they do this. Just to piss off the SoF Fans. :P

All the reason I have stated are reasons why I think they're a good choice :D :

A) They are a good band (essential headliner criteria)

:) They have sold a lot of albums

C) They are very popular

all reasons placing them in the "good choice" category in my opinion

I feel I understood the question perfectly. If it doesn't make you want to part with you money well . . .then dont. simple really

Ok,maybe we have a different idea over what is a good choice of headliner or maybe we have different idealisms attached to the idea of a good headliner.

The reason's you've listed above i whole-heartedly agree with.On paper with those facts then obviously Kings of Leon are a perfect headliner. They also sell out arena's which proves they are capable of shifting tickets. These things are undeniable and i agree on paper they deserve to headline.

The thing in my eyes which makes them a bad headliner this year is what i listed before. They've played EVERY major British festival in the past 14 months by Reading's dates and had 2 huge arena tours. It feals like over exposure and isn't a 'fresh','exciting' choice this year.

If they hadn't played this year and instead gone off and written a new album and come back and played in a year or two i wouldn't been having this discussion with you.Even if the album wasn't yet ready to be released but they still took a year out and played i'd be okay with it but i just feal like the choice is uninspired.

Last years headliner's all had huge quirks that made them interesting choices.

Rage Against The Machine: A band returning after 5/6/7 years out of the public eye.

The Killers : A British exclusive

Metallica: A legendery band on the cusp of releasing their first new album in 5 years.

Do you see where i'm coming from?

As for the don't spend my money,i'm not.The line-up rumours so far just on't excite me but i still like to come and post here and have discussions like this and exchange views.

I think you are being a bit idealistic but in fairness I think you would probably agree with that point. Festival republic are all about the ticket sales. If these headliners sell out (and they will) it is job done, just as if it was 3 bands who had not played in a while. IN fact 3 rarer bands may cost them more money reducing profit margins for them. I hate boiling it down to business but you have to be realistic.
