melchamps
Hi Guys, Myself and my b/f are off to V for the first time this year. Really looking forward to it! We have both done Glasto quite a few times and we wondered how V will be in comparison? Campsites, Security, loos,MUD, bars etc!! - you know all the boring bits! We have tickets in the Red camping area! Would be good to see what peoples opinions are, thx

Not19Forever
The main difference is that the campsite and the arena are separate at V. That means your not allowed to take drink into the arena to see the bands, and you also need to leave the arena each evening. You also can't freely move around campsites, so if you've got mates in Yellow and you're in Red, you'll struggle to meet up - although I've always found that just politely explaining yourself to security gets round those issues,,,
melchamps
Thanks for your comments guys... dont supose you can tell me how far it is from the car to the tent (roughly speaking!) at Glasto it feels like you are treking for miles to the campsite from the car park!! Also is it easy to get access to your car after you have camped up? Was thinking perhaps of leaving my wet weather gear in there (if it isnt raining!!). (you may be able to tell - most of the glasto's i have attended have been the wetest and muddiest ie 2005 and 2007! I hope this doesnt mean i am jinxed and will be bringing the wet weather with me ?!?!

bornslippy
You cant compare the two festivals. Apart from having live music they dont have much else in common. These are the probs with V .The beer token system bollox. Campsites seperated from rest of festival. Only 1 kind of beer to drink whoever sponsors the event. Really cramped in the arena area, f**k all else to do apart from watch the music. Very very commercial. food shit, beer shit camping shit. Line up ok ish if all you want is mainsteam pop music. Not a lot of stuff to do away from the arena. All in all Glasto everytime. Ive been to V numerous time and Glasto too, but i never knew what a real festival was till i went to Glasto. I think you be dissapointed

jasper in the rye
you will spend a lot more money and alot more time in queues at v i said it would be my last time last year but the music line up persuaded me to give it another go. Red Fraggle
Been to both Glasto and V. V more often because its close to where I live and its easier to convince my mates to go. V is very commercial, the loos are not bad compared to Glasto and the Isle of Wight Festies. Have to queue for ages for them though. Unfortunately you don't get the festie vibe quite so much at V and it wasn't quite so friendly the last couple of times I managed to get tickets. I've only been truly soaked the once at V too and you don't really get the mud like at Glasto. Isle of Wight's been my favourite so far because it hasn't been a mud festival for me there yet and I had the best nuttiest time. Just wish it was closer and more mates would be interested in that one.
melchamps
Well we are both going with an open mind, i guessed that it would be somewhat more 'commercial' than Glasto but after not getting tickets for Glasto this year we thought we would try something else. Im looking forward to it, in fact i would like to have done all the major fest's at least once then i guess you truely can have an opinion on which one is best. Think i might try IOW next year again for something different!

Fluter
What is so commercial at V compared to other festivals? I know they have adverts on the big screen during band breaks generally promoting the sponsor, but what else? Ive not been to Glasto so dont understand, the bar and toilet system at V last 2 years have been a joke, having said that I would say that is down to not having enough loos and bars in the arena and the fact that the staff are thick as shit
139sroberts
Car to tent (red camping - quiet area) was about 30mins for me last year.

marcwilson87
The other problem with Glasto is getting tickets nigh on f**king impossible these days. It's so fashionable that everyone wants them. When I went 7 years ago (the first year of the fence) tickets were still available a week after they went on sale. Nowadays you're lucky if they're still available an hour after they go up.

ivan
I have clocked up 8 Glasto's and 5 V's If I could only do one it would be Glasto , but if you like the V Line- Up go. People have a go at V , but its a nice way to spend a weekend in mid august. Yes there are issues with it - mainly it shuts down at 11.00 pm , apart from the odd bar ! But if you really like the line up , I would say def go !
