Best live band you've ever seen?

I'm so glad I've finally read some negative reviews of that set. I gave it a miss on the basis of, well, hating nearly all of his Beatles songs except Blackbird. After the tidal wave of 'BEST. SET. EVER.' comments I thought I'd made a massive mistake, saw some youtube videos of it recently and was thoroughly unimpressed but thought it could have just come across badly on an internet video. This has made me feel much better.

Were you at one of the MBV Roundhouse shows? Thought that was slightly anti-climatic to be honest, although I'd built it up so much that it could probably never have been as good I thought it was going to be. Sometimes I thought it was getting to the point of too loud and the subtleties got lost. Then I saw them at Bestival and it was an absolute EXPLOSION OF JOY. Never thought MBV could make me dance so much, sound was perfect, the atmosphere was amazing, it was like a cheesy pop show or something but with tidal waves of feedback being met with rapture, incredible.

As for of Montreal, I've seen them 4 times and one show definitely fell victim to poor levels and another was at Field Day, which if you've ever been speaks for itself. The other two, at Cargo & Koko, were fantastic though, at Koko they ended with Smells Like Teen Spirit, the whole place went off, it was incredible.. not to mention the never ending costume changes/confetti explosions/dance routines etc.

Just realised I left Broken Social Scene and Tilly & The Wall off my original list, will I ever forgive myself?

Introduce one that hasn't been mentioned, because yes Muse is a great live act, and so are Radiohead and The Prodigy, I would have to say INTERPOL. Be sure to get close and get into the vibe. Preferrably to be seen indoors or in the dark.

Quite a few for me but for different reasons

Oasis - best crowd sing-alongs and biggest sound going.

Arcade Fire - best performance I've ever seen by any band and great to watch as there's so much going on.

Mercury Rev - atmospherically beautiful.

Libertines - total carnage but utterly worth it. The interplay between Pete and Carl will never be rivalled to me

Last Shadow Puppets - if ever a gig felt like a James bond film this was it. Felt sleazy being there!

Richard Thompson - best guitarist I've ever seen. Could watch his fretwork forever.

Chemical Brothers - everyone gets moving even if they can't!! Brilliant.

Since I havn't been to that many gigs (apart from glastonbury) yet I will put my gigs in order of favourites:

The Walkmen, Brighton Concorde 2: Absolutely outstandingly good.

Muse at wembley, Never really been into their music beforehand and only went cause dad and sister wanted me to go but they blew me away.

Guillemots at brixton academy- My first ever gig, will never forget.

Guillmots summerset house- Brilliant in the beautiful weather.

British Sea Power, Brighton corn exchange- Mental Live.

Hard Fi at Worthing- Shit live.

Cheers,

its gonna have to be a few,

neil young at paris grand rex theatre last february, utterly mesmerising half acoustic half electric, even preformed rocking in the free world, which im led to believe is pretty rare.

Roger Waters at Hyde Park in 2006 with nick mason preforming dark side of the moon in full and a best of pink floyd set.

John Martyn preforming Solid Air in full at Gateshead Sage, unreal.

And finally DFA1979 in newcastle students union, in the small room with various members of other bands in the small crowd, electric!
