Any chance of Australian Pink Floyd Show?

Just noticed the Australian Pink Floyd have confirmed for Isle Of Wight.

A very good tribute band... any chance they could play Glasto as a Other Stage headliner...?

OK fair enough, Bjork had a green laser beam a few years ago - but the Aus Floyd lightshow would be amazing to see at Glasto this year.

You really want to see the Australian Pink Floyd headline the Other stage? You my friend have serious issues. I really don't get the appeal of tribute bands. Watching them is a completely underwhelming experience, you spend the whole time knowing its a bunch of pretenders, wishing it was the real thing. No matter how good they are, they fail to deliver every time. Having one headline the other stage would be tragic.

(and yes i have seen the aus pink floyd, and yes they are good, but they're still just a tribute band!!)

It's certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that a tribute band might headline the other stage. I'm sure I saw something that resembled a really bad pub covers band on the Friday night in 2004 on the Pyramid stage

In all seriousness though, if the Easy Star All Stars are playing I'd hope they play lots off Dub Side of the Moon and Radiodread. Radiodread for sure I prefer to OK Computer!

Tribute bands are cultural f****** bankruptcy. I don't care how faithfully they reproduce the sounds of the original there is absolutely no point to them whatsoever, Do your own thing, make your own art. The worst album/live act I've ever seen is still a million times more valid that the best tribute band. i hate the concept, I don't care about the execution, there's no point to them at all, and they certainly have no place at a festival of contemporary art. Where's the art, the imagination and the creativity?

Stars in their f******eyes. C***s.

hehehehe. Fair point, might have sounded a bit harsh, but I care passionately about music and creativity and these people are shitting on it.

Think about your favourite book. Now let a writer who's not talented enough to write his own books loose to rewrite your favourite novel. Worthwhile project or load of old cack?

Think about your favourite film. Now lets get some lookylikes with none of the acting ability of the main characters and remake the film with them in it instead.

Yeah, great. Lets go watch a tribute band.

So I like the outstanding Australian Pink Floyd who play tunes of the ultra-outstanding Pink Floyd, and because of that I have "serious issues"?

Blimey I only said "any chance they could play Glasto as a Other Stage headliner".

Ok ok, any chance they could play Glasto in the spot before an Other Stage headliner?

Or if that view makes my "issues" still serious, how about they play the Park Stage.

Or if that view still does not resolve my issues, how about they play the Park Stage at 10am.

Or if that view still does not resolve my issues, how about they dont play any stage and have to perform balancing on the stones at the circle.

Sorry that my "serious issues" involve liking the music of Pink Floyd and knowing Aus Floyd are the next best thing to seeing the original. waaaahh.

OK, whats the point of a 'tribute band' someone said...

Radiohead tribute band - no point because Radiohead have not split up and still tour.

Oasis tribute band - no point because Oasis have not split up and still tour.

Rolling Stones - no point because the Stones have not split up and still tour.

(etc)

Bootleg Beatles - the beatles dont tour because half of the famous 4 are dead and the bootlegs do a great gig for anyone who never got to see the original beatles. Thats the point of tribute bands.

Aus Floyd - Sid is dead, Rick is dead. Dave & Roger still dont see eye to eye and wont tour as the Floyd. The Aus Floyd show is superb and are the next best thing to seeing the real Floyd - who (by the way) you cant see! Thats the point of tribute bands.

WOW, on this thread so far we have had statements that someone has 'issues'. We have had f'|ng on here... all at the mention of a well known and well respected band - The Australian Pink Floyd.

Burn the Aus Floyd at the stake - those evil do'ers!

I don't understand the 'next best thing' idea. It's like saying that these things are comparable, they're not. If I can't watch 'The Wire', I don't think 'Cash in the Attic' is the next best thing. If I go to CD shop and they haven't got the Lucinda Williams album I want, i don't buy Celine Dion like cos it's the next best thing.

Some things are gone, and that's the way it is.

No bad thing, really. If my Gran dies, i don't get another old lady to dress up like her and make some cakes for me, cos it's the next best thing :O That would seem a bit odd to me.
