TBC vs SR

A 'rumour' is where there's a rumour going round, where no one knows any basis for it.

A 'strong rumour' is where there's stuff to indicate that a band will probably be playing.

'TBC' is where eFestivals has received info that we believe to be correct from somewhere, which we believe makes it certain that that act is playing.

'Confirmed' is where an act is officially confirmed by that festival.

Not really, didnt Madonna go from TBC to disappearing all together by-passing the R and SR altogether.

nope - she was only ever a strong rumour, or perhaps even just a rumour (I forget). We never had any info that she was defo playing.

(if she was ever listed as a TBC, that would have been only due to cock-up; it happens).

I hope Fleetwood Mac isnt a cock up cos im sooo excited about that one!

nope - we've had what should be 100% perfect info on that one. If you knew the source (which I can't say, sorry), I'm sure you'd agree.

But of course we're only as good as the info we get, and how much trust we put in that info - so there's always the possibility of us being wrong.

But with Fleetwood Mac I'll be hugely surprised if we are. :)

- ok it may not indicate that they will 'probably be playing' but i would hope that there is more than a possibility since it'll only take the bookers to strike a deal with them - unless glastonbury don't want them to play - in which case i hate everything....

the thing with bands saying they want to play is that it essentially means nothing - after all, just about every band in the world would say that they want to play. It doesn't mean they will tho.

And so if we worked off that basis, we'd have to start with a list including nearly every band in the world, and then wittle things down as bands ruled themselves out. It's not really a workable way to go.

sure, i understand that, but it was fairly well publicised that sonic youth made a point of saying that they wanted to play this year, and they're a fairly big band who i'd have thought a festival like glastonbury would make a point of trying to get.

anyway, my point is i can see more basis to the rumour that sonic youth will be playing this year than some of the bands that are on strong rumours such as white stripes.

but i guess it doesn't really matter... i just hope they both play *crosses fingers*

but the same things could be said about Metallica, who also said they'd like to play.

ok, true. but that doesn't explain why white stripes are a strong rumour. and that's what this thread is really about - clarity in the definition of rumours/strong rumours etc...

unless i've missed some crucial information about the white stripes which makes them a strong rumour i don't see why they are - can't find anything on here or on google. please direct me anyone who knows of some hard evidence

cheers

tbh, I can't remember the source for that, but it might possibly be one of our private sources - there's plenty of other stuff listed you won't find a public reference for, or at least that was the case at the time of them being listed.
