Glastonbury food with pictures

Is there a decent fish and chips to be had?

Yes. There's a few stalls around the pyramid/dance/other markets. Not a fancy fish and chips but good old fashioned. The trick is to pick your moment, they tend to mass fry a shitload in time for predicted rushes. Catch them when they've just started frying and it's not been sitting around, but avoid when there's a queue. But yeah it's fish and chips, had really nice and plain ones fairly much at random.

Oh and look out for bones - found more in a few at glasto than in all my fish and chips outside! Quite alarming when you're in a rather giddy state

Bump cause I'm hungry and love the glasto food.

Last year we found an amazing duck wrap place i think it was between pyramid and west holts, £5 a duck wrap but be warned you get addicted and can build up to a 3 a day habit easily :-)

Piggie Smalls come up here for one of those trendy street food events that are popping up all over the shop these days. They were at the 6 music festival, fantastic scran.

Is there any burger places worth a look in? Obvs the gourmet burger trend has been done to death but I'd be reluctant to get one at Glasto as any 'shit in a tray' merchant can stick the word gourmet on their sign and stick £3 on the price of their frozen Birds Eye effort.

Yes, there's some good options.

Can't remember the names but there's a couple of good places at Williams Green which I think are run by local farms, and Grillstock in the JazzWorld field are pretty good. Lots of people recommend Arnolds Alfresco, although I've never been impressed so haven't tried them for a few years.

I've never found it that difficult to avoid the crap places - just watch hows its made, and if you can't see then that's a pretty good indication that you don't want to find out.

Just had a look at the Piggie Smalls twitter, looks lovely, hope they're there next year.

I was chatting to the guy who owns Piggie Smalls at last years festival. They were down near the busy road between silver hayes and John Peel where it quite often gets mad busy. I cannot remember how much exactly the pitch had cost them but I remember him saying that taking into account all costs - pitch, staff, etc he was hoping to break even by Sunday lunch time. Not sure if that is similar for all food stall operators or not but I cant imagine there is a great deal of profit to be made if that is the case.

I also spoke to the Dorset Smokery guy at 2000 trees who was saying that it is just pot luck really if you make a profit or not - weather, pitch etc all have an impact on sales. He said quite often they only just break even at the bigger festivals and find the smaller ones can be more profitable.

still never had a growler.....dont know if thats a good or bad thing...heard varying reviews haha

With the growler it's not exactly the quality you're paying for, because it's not exactly made with gourmet ingredients, but it soaks up yesterday's alcohol and fills you up for most of the day on an industrial scale.

I don't have a picture but I had a halloumi and something wrap from this Lebanese food stall between the Other stage and another stage and it was the most satisfying thing I think I have ever eaten. Will be on a quest to find it again next year

believe it or not I had haloumi for the first time from this exact stall. Never looked back

I've not found one at Glastonbury yet sadly :( (Or decent chips really, though the Childrens World Cafe in Cabaret/Bella's field make a decent effort.).

I foolishly in 2013 had fish and chips after Phoenix cutting through the Dance Village. Was vile.

Hopefully Saucy Chip who were at Bestival, get over to Glastonbury next year...they was even better than most chip shops!!! Stunning stunning chips :D (They did fish to but didn't get to try :P)

I was off my head at the time but I'm sure I found an excellent chippy van (actual chippy chips!!) in the SE corner. I go the hippy chippy purely for the laughs

As you walk down from the Green Fields, its on the right hand side, directly opposite the Greenpeace bit.

(How sad am I that I know that)

Ahh I could have guessed it would be by Greenpeace!

I always think to myself that the food looks good round there, but carry on walking.

I am going to make an effort this year and try something there!
