Blur vs Gorillaz

No Chance

You only have to listen to 'modern life is rubbish' to see this.

This is comparing grapes with oranges really. Damon is topclass in everything he does. Only in Blur he had another genius by his side, which, to me, makes Blur's music more dynamic and timeless than Gorillaz. But love both.

I was a reasonably keen Blur fan back in the day. Saw them in '98 at the Pyramid  However, I've been re-listening to the old albums in preparation and find Demon Days to be a better sounding (production wise), more consistent and more coherent album than any of the Blur albums.

Obviously, songs like Tender, For Tomorrow, This is a Low and Beetlebum still do things to me that no cartoon band ever has, but as an album, I think Demon Days is better than any Blur album. I would love the cartoonies to play Glastonbury. Imagine Feel Good inc pumping out over a Funkion 1 PA!

EDIT: I don't have that much time for the 1st Gorillaz album, you may guess!

I'm pretty sure Demon Days sold more than all Blur albums combined, but I have no facts to back that up. It was either in Alex's autobiography or the fairly recent biography of Damon.

It's an incredible, incredible album. I prefer it to Parklife and it's probably just pipped to the post for my favourite Blur album by the self-titled.

There are just so many great pop songs on it, I couldn't choose a favourite. I'm listening to it too now, Damon's vocals on Star Shaped are just sublime, his voice has got a lot lower since those days.

Saw Blur in Cardiff in '96 and they were absolutely awesome - supported by Super Furry Animals too.

Not sure if we're going to watch them at Glastonbury, particularly as we'll be seeing both of the other Pyramid headliners.

Does anyone know if they're likely to play material from Think Tank? I absolutely love that album (Good Song, Battery In Your Leg, Out Of Time - all so good) but I wasn't sure how much love there now is between Albarn and Coxon. Knowing this might help decide whether to go and see them...
