What a rubbish line-up so far

I'm right confused now

Festivals are the absolute highlight of my year and me and my best mate had decided to go to Glasto this year - we've been looking forward to it for ever. We really love our music but love everything about festivals

I must admit the line-up announced so far have not really been my cup of tea but I've thought, "I'm sure the famous Glasto vibe will make up for it and we'll have a bangin' time"

I do understand where Godders is coming from - especially for a first-timer - the acts announced so far are never going to set my hair on fire. But the thing that's really surprised me is how aggressive so many posters to this thread are.

I'd imagined Glasto to be full of people who believe in "live and let live". The great thing about festivals for me is such a great gathering of people with shared interest and a great spirit. From this thread it seems more like it's full of people who believe, "If you don't agree with me you can f**k off"

Is my rose-tinted view of Glasto really misplaced or is it going to be the best festival in the world bar none?

Is it full of peace and harmony or is it full of Glasto-Nazi's?

The line-up will appeal to a lot of people but I can see why some will just see a troop of dinosaurs creeping along like that scene in Fantasia. These people are wrong and they will be amazed that Neil Young, for example, plays some of the loudest visceral guitar on the planet and is more grungey than most bands of that ilk. Those who only know him from Heart Of Gold on Radio 2 breakfast shows will be standing there in awe. We are ALL in for a treat in June and anyone who cancels their ticket and sees highlights on tV will be feeling pretty sick.

The vast majority of the glastonbury going public never visit this forum and we dont really represent a fair picture of what its like, quite often people on forums like a row.

The line up complaints happen every year and they are annoying, thats why i bumped identical posts from 08 & 07. People have a right to moan but historically glastonbury has never had a 100% indie rock'n'roll line up, see link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glastonbury_Festival_line-ups

and yet it hasn't got its reputation of being the best festival by accident, its the variety at Glastonbury that lifts it above the others.

If you just want to sit at the mainstage for the entire time you are there, then maybe Glastonbury isn't the one. T in the Park always has an amazingly strong line up of the latest bands and i always cast a jealous eye at it whilst a book up for Glastonbury yet again.

As whilst T and the others may be big gigs in a field, Glastonbury is still a festival, take sometime to wander about (amongst seeing the bands like) and you'll have a great time

And to the OP sorry for calling you a nob, but you were making a nob head statement, its nothing personal

This is my first time posting, so be kind!!! I've never been to a festival before, so I have no idea what to expect!!! However, I've been told by mates that it's not about the music, it's about the vibe!!! I'm not over bothered by anyone except for Blur!!! (Aaah Alex James!!!!) But, I would never, ever ever, in a million years, consider cancelling my ticket, even if my worst band in the world appeared!! (You know who you are Mr Barlow!!!) I am so so excited, I could burst, and I really don't care who's on, cos I know I'll have a great time. By the way, any good flag ideas? I have to make one!

I wouldn't go to Glastonbury if I judged it by it's line-up to be honest. I don't care how many thousands of acts there are, I'm not paying £180 for a line-up which is dominated by little known alternative/folk/country/acoustic etc type acts. Before I get a slating I severly can't stand the generic, souless indie bands of the moment either so don't shout back 'GO TO READING THEN!'. I do think they should release 1/4 of a BALANCED line-up when tickets go on sale, that way you'll keep to old guard happy yet pull in more new faces, young and old.

If it wasn't for my dad taking me last year it would have taken me a long time to get to Glastonbury, it just wasn't the top of festivals I wanted to go to. To anybody who hasn't been it is judged like the rest of the big festivals in the UK, on it's line-up. You can call it a 'performance arts' festival all you like it's known as a music festival to the world. I watched it on TV when I was younger and it just looks like any other festival.

Having now been I tell my friends about how different it is, things like having no arena, thousands of acts, how long it's on for, the sheer size of the place, the random stuff going on and they don't have a clue about any of it. To them it could be festival 'X' in a field but with 'hippys' lol There in lies the difference and difficulty with Glastonbury it's judged on it's line-up yet that's not what it's about. It's line-up doesn't really pull people in like V, Reading/Leeds or T but once you get people there, the Glastonbury essence will keep them there.

I am going back because there is something very different about Glastonbury, something very special but it's not it's line-up. It's an event worthy of knighthood, people say others should look outside their bubble and go to Glastonbury those same people need to look outside the Glastonbury bubble and realise Glastonbury doesn't apply to the normal rules. I'll probably go every year of my life now but people need to stop arguing as what your arguing about is on different levels. Not the same thing.

To the original poster, I agree the line-up is rubbish on the whole, but go you will find something you like but I can say with 100% confidence you will return regardless of the line-up.

Is it just me or is anyone else considering cancelling Glasto this year?

The rumoured line-up is very disappointing, in my opinion. There is not one act (apart from Blur probably) that I would pay money to go and see in their own right.

Didn’t Mr Eavis say a couple of years ago he wanted to attract younger visitors to his festival? I’m no spring chicken myself but acts like Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Springsteen, Fairport Convention, Crosby Stills Nash, and Tom Jones etc aren’t going to help at all. They actually make me feel young.

I think the final nail in the coffin was when I read that Des O’Connor was rumoured to be there. Give me strength!

Things better improve soon or I’ll be cashing in my ticket for the Leeds or V Festival.

Anyone else considering cancelling or is it just me??

There's a line up? Oh eck, and here's me flying halfway across the world to go sit in a field with my mates! Have I got to organise my day around acts, bands and events? Shit! There goes my weekend! :)
