Tony Christie confirms

Tony Christie, famous for his hit (Is This The Way To) Amarillo, is to appear at this year's Glastonbury Festival.

Christie, who said he was "in awe" of the event, will play on the main Pyramid Stage on Sunday afternoon.

He follows classic stars like Neil Diamond, Dame Shirley Bassey, Brian Wilson and James Brown, who have all played Sunday slots in recent years.

Veteran acts look set to dominate this year's event, with Neil Young, Blur and Bruce Springsteen topping of the bill.

If this is true then i'll be disappointed because I look forward to the Sunday legend spot. Tony Christie is not in the same class as Neil Diamond (2008) and Shirley Bassey (2007). The majority of people in this country only know one song, and that's only because of Peter Kay ;)

I saw him a couple of years back at V (at the time of the Peter Kay thing) and he was woeful.

I shall be elsewhere I think!

I'd be surprised if he was given the Sunday 5pm slot previously occupied by Brian Wilson, Neil Diamond, James Brown, etc as clearly Tony Christie isn't in the same league...

There has also been an a habit of putting lesser known "legends" earlier on in the day, and I'd say Christie would have one of those slots. I mean the slots that have been filled by Gilbert O'Sullivan, Jools Holland, Christy Moore, etc in the past.

As discussed he's probably one of the earlier slots and not the "legend" spot...also pretty sure emily eavis discussed earlier in the year that they were looking at the possibility of having the legend spot on the other days aswell....so this announcement shouldn't rule out the chances of jones or harris.

...and regards another oldie being announced...for every fleetwood mac/neil young/christie etc confirmed so far, there's been an animal collective, bon iver, florence and the machine, glasvegas etc aswell.

Tony Christie might be excited about playing Glastonbury but I'm not!! :D

He is not is the same league as past Sunday afternoon sets, I will not be at the Pyramid watching him (terrible not to support a fellow Sheffielder!) so it frees me up for something else. ;)
