pedmills
Yes I agree but age has loads to do with it. People tend to like styles that they are brought up with be it clothes, food, cars or music. Personally I listen to everything from The Three Tenors to Korn but can understand why people are not happy. The headliners are heavily weighted for the 30+s. I think the headliners should be 1 from each of these groups..... A. Artic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Linkin Park, The Strokes, The Killers, Kasabian, Snow Patrol, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Muse etc B. Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Paul Mccartney, Pink Floyd, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones etc C. Blur, Radiohead, Oasis, U2 etc
Messy
Someone gave me a piece of advice a while back: there is only GOOD music and BAD music.
grumpyhack
Come on children - stop squabbling. It's too late. You now only have two choices - go and make the best of it or ask for a refund. If you've been before and have got a ticket this time you'll be going because you know from personal experience that you will always find something that you enjoy. If you've not been before and are lucky enough to have a ticket give it a try. If you're daft enough to have a ticket and decide to go for a refund, go back to eating McDonalds and leading a sad life of never trying anything new or different. daveinafield
Would be so hard as to read what I have said? I am not arguing for my personal tastes lol I've not once stated what I would personally like, so happens the only 'young' act I would like would be Muse. My attitude would be to try and please as many as possible, with your view it should be oldies happy, youngsters unhappy then the year after oldies unhappy, youngsters happy? Maybe I'm just an idealist.

MikeyB37
If we're using flagship in the sense of the thing that represents Glastonbury the most or it's greatest achievement, Id disagree entirely - it's the whole of the festival that is its flagship, the 'experience', the fact that it is entirely not defined by it's mainstage and it's headliners - that is its flagship
daveinafield
To you ( or i ) maybe, but i'd agree with Benchbuddah if he's referring to the opinion of those who don't know any better (i.e, they haven't been). If you'd asked me just 4 years ago, i'd certainly have placed the Pyramid at the top of the list.

Ice Fatality
Just throwing my opinion in here... I understand what a lot of people are getting at, a "younger" headliner on the pyramid stage would've been nice, but then it might just be a possibility that no bands from the last few years that are actually worth headlining, aren't available or have done it in the past few years... unless you want w@nk like the Kaiser Chiefs headlining... chances are, there will be huge newer acts underneath all of the headliners, and after them there will be something going on in the other tents that's just breaking through now. All that being said, at least 2 of the headliners (Young & Springsteen) are a major coup for the festival, IIRC Young has rejected playing loads of times (correct me if I'm wrong?), and this year is Springsteen's first time playing any festivals, ever. Also... I love reading fests line-up and im 19 so yes those are the sort of bands WE want.

BlackHole2006
I think it's apalling that even this year people are complaining and saying "Ooh the line up should appeal to the younger people" I'm sticking up for eavis here, last yeare he tried to appeal to the younger generation, and they all still complained, saying that Jay-Z was not glastonbury, but he even played at O2 Wireless and another one too that very same year. Personally, I'm not too keen on the headliners, bar springsteen, but I already have other plans, Animal Collective on the friday and a dance act on the sat (Hopefully Underworld). And whats with all the bruce springsteen dad rock comparisions? Bruce literally rewrote the rock bible, he is a living legend, and even people who do not like his music, respect his part in music history and the fact that he played such an important role in it. Cheers, BlackHole2006

robith
Point being? They are 'of the moment' and appeal to a younger audience.

William of Walworth
Well, kneejerk reactions are never good are they? Last year they wanted to encourage more of the young people to come which almost failed and they, like many of my pensioner friends here at Sunny Vale, shat themselves. I thought last years lineup was diverse, moderately risky and highly entertaining. This year I expect to see more over 40's with the 'safe' headliners already booked and a diverse lineup with something for everyone. Someone once said the Pyramid acts like a holding pen for people who are only interested in one aspect of the festival like the Greenfield holds all those peace loving and relaxed environmental types. Expect to see very long queues at the toilets and vast numbers of camping chairs around the pyramid and to hear plenty of anecdotes beginning with "In my day" and we senior citizens promise not to have an unfortunate accident next to you. See you down the front for Mr Young. Matron, I can't find my slippers.

firecracker
i am 16 and last year was my first glasto and was one of the best experiences of my life. Everything about the festival is so diverse, including the music, and that is what makes glasto glasto. There is such a huge range of music that there is always going to be something going on for older/newer festival goers and half the fun is just going round without any cares and stumbling across things. It is a huge cliche but glasto really isn't just about the music, there is so much more, as well as the fact that most of the line-up is still to come, so there is surely very little to be annoyed at...
