Why I chose Glastonbury....

This is my first festival in 25 years and if I wanted it 'cushy' I would have chosen Leeds for the following reasons:

  • It's gonna be at least a 5 hour drive for me to get to Glasto - Leeds would take me 20 minutes

  • God knows how long its gonna take me to get home from Glasto - Leeds would take me 30 minutes

  • I'm gonna be camping for 5 night at Glasto - I would be driving home daily & sleeping in a warm comfortable bed if I chose Leeds

  • There's gonna be no proper shower for 5 days at Glasto - At Leeds I would be clean & fresh every day

  • I don't give a hoot about Young or Springsteen - would really like to see Arctic Monkeys, KOL & The Chiefs

I chose Glastonbury for one simple reason.....I wanted to attend a festival of culture, not a music festival.

I dont think you would get the whole festival experience if you went home everynight and slept in your own bed, cleaned yourself up and returned the next day. For me its the whole package that makes the festival, great live music, plenty of alcohol, getting very little sleep at best, and even feeling rank after a couple days, its all part and parcel of what a festival is.

It's also the live music on offer that decides it for me when choosing festivals, this year Il be doing Leeds for Radiohead and Glasto for Neil Young and Blur, I'd also love to get to Belgium for Rock Werchter this year too as the line up is unreal, but highly doubt i'l have the funds so soon after Glasto.

Staying overnight is possibly the most important part of a festival. Sitting around chatting to friends and putting the world to rights in the wee small hours in a field and exploring the nightlife - it's amazing what's still going on at 3am.

You'd miss that completely if you went home every night after just watching a series of concerts. I've lost track of the number of times I've read or typed "it's not just about the music" but it's true.

It also brings out your 'survival skills' - washing in half a bowl of lukewarm water, keeping warm and dry, brewing up on a camping gas stove, managing to keep your booze chilled etc. You can go home glowing that you survived the festival though do allow a day afterwards to really scrub up and get rid of the smell of the glow before you face the rest of the world.

Im from Leeds too mate (Bramley) my first Glasto was 2005 after about 8 Leeds Festivals, went back once after and it was rubbish in comparison, and didnt feel anything like a festival.

Im not into Springsteen etc either, i prefer the harder rockier stuff, and underground dance, but the 5 hour journey is so worth it!

Your going to love it!!!

I've never been to Leeds, my boyfriend went and someone set his tent on fire, and when I say someone I mean his younger sister  Apparently whichever band was headlining suggested that people should 'burn the place down'... and so she did. I'd like to go to as many festivals as possible but I just can't not go to Glasto!
