glasto line up gettin worse every year

yeah, I hate the headliners this year as well but I know there's plenty more to do than watch two ageing has-been's with production values that haven't aged very well at all.

If Radio 1 is more your thing than I'm sure the other smaller stage headliners will be right up your street.

Or you could spend all day dancing in the Dance Village/Shangri-La/Trash City till 7am in the morning.

Or you could check out some World Music or watch Alabama 3 at the Jazz World Stage while sipping on festival strength Brothers Cider...

... Or you could cancel your ticket.

I don't care what you decide.. Just shut the hell up already about the announced 1% of the lineup and start more threads about the Weather and "I heard from my best mates mate that Radiohead are playing".

Thanks

I agree, this will be my 3rd year going and even since then, the line up seems to be going down hill, it's still a great festival/atmosphere and all the rest of it but the line up needs to be better.

There are loads of cool relatively unknown bands, but there def needs to be more big acts that will get the crowd going like yeah yeah yeahs, foals, elbow, iggy, prodigy to name a few, like previous years had. Not Just Jack, Ting Tings, and Tony Christie.

And before someone says it, I paid £175 because all my mates still go, im not going to pay £150 to go to another festival by myself.

Glasto is still great though, but sort out the line up and it will def be the best no question  .

Give it a rest people, you can still cancel your tickets if you don't think you're going to like the lineup. I really don't understand why the constant moaning goes on, especially as only a few acts have been officially announced as yet.

My son is 15 and people he would most like to see at glasto are Bowie, Patti Smith, Marillion (with fish singing), Lou Reed ..... FYI fish is the youngest at 50 and the others are over 60

He also wants The Infedels and The Hours to play, age doesnt come into it, just the music :P

I personally am hoping that BB King plays (aged 83) :)

hi all, this will be my 6th glasto and ive found over the last 3 times ive been, the line up is getting worse and worse and with emily saying it was going to be a momentous glastonbury this year i didnt expect to see a load of has beens headlining the main stage. what happened to muse, the killers, oasis even paul mc cartney was worthy but bruce springsteen and Neil Young? i know they say its not all about the music and agree but alot of it is the music.

i think next year my money would be better spent at the likes of v-festival, leeds, reading.

im not just having a moan and im sure i cant be the only one that thinks that for the £175 per ticket they should be doing better for the fans.

please tell me that its not just me that feels this way and maybe post ya dream line up.

No, it isn't just you. So far, apart from Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and CSN, I am a little disapointed with the line up. Not much of a balance between the 'youthful bands' and the veterans/legends. However, I will still be going to Glastonbury if the ticket price rises to 400 quid and the biggest act playing is a cover band of the ting tings!!! Itsi simply worth paying that just to be there!!!

Also, I a little dissapointed with some of the responses we have got on this thread, such as "SOD OFF TO V!", "why are you going?!" and "please return you ticket!". I thought more of the people on this forum!

To be fair to the original poster, it is the headliners that provide the immediate reaction to a Glasto line up, and, yes, there's no getting away from the fact that they're all old giffers this year - however good their reputation or kudo's they have garnered over the years.

We all know that Glasto is more than just the headliners or even any of the bands, but I think that the poster makes a valid point regarding a balance (just in the same way as Jay-Z was slagged last year)

Even though I'm going to be 50 this year myself, and am looking forward to all the headliners - I'd still like to see a few 'newer' bands there as well.

I don't think you can say the line up is getting worse until you know who will be playing. All you know for sure at the moment are half a dozen headliners. Sure, they are mainly oldies that have been confirmed so far (though Lily Allen at 23 may be a bit peeved to be classed as an oldie).

But younger bands will also be there.

Some bands rise the the top quickly and at an early age but most need to work their time to gain the experience and build the repertoire to justify a headlining slot.

Still reckon that Leonard Cohen (73 last year) was game, set and match for the oldies.

Both threads like these, and the inevitable defending to the hilt of anything Glasto, are tedious in the extreme.

I find it sad that regardless of the line-up, the majority of the people here will defend it and attack anyone not 100% into the 'efestival approved' Glasto experience.

Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen are both artists that have passed me by in 20years of listening to music. I've now listened to them and I can hear why.

This won't stop me enjoying Glastonbury though, and it also won't stop me expressing the opinion that they're turd. In fact, I'll get some pleasure from debating the relative turdiness of them both.

Different strokes, folks.

Oh and I'm no fan of Springsteen either, I'm making a point of wanting to work a shift during his set (so as to be free at other times for other stuff).

This idea that you're supposedly 'not allowed' to criticise Bruce Springsteen (or Neil Young) is complete rollocks. The real impatience/objection is to people judging the entire lineup, or the entire atmosphere of Glastonbury 2009, on the basis of a very very few main stage headliners ...
