Me too, but it looks really unlikely. I think they were rumoured because NME gave them the same award that they gave to Manics last year.

I would be over the moon if they did play, just so long as they didn't clash with Radiohead.

I'd like to think they'd play, but to be honest, I think Jane's Addiction are going to headlining the NME tent now - a suitable substitute for the Cure I think!

Not as ridiculous as it may seem. If Manic street preachers (a band whos latest album was top 5 and who play arena shows as well) can headline, why not the cure, esppecialy as we have heard that the other two headliners could be bigger than usual. For one NME has described the headliner as being 'very special' and I dont think Lost Prophets fit the bill. Also there is the nme award connection etc.

I'm not saying they will headline (personaly I dont see it happening either) I'm just suggesting it isn't as unlikely as many people on here (who no doubt are slightly biased towards the band) are saying. Remember that despite lots of publicity there recent album was a flop.

EDIT: White lies will be playing second on the stage on the sunday. Now I'm not saying that makes it certain, but they supported The Cure at the NME big gig and there are a lot of simularities.

99% sure that it won't happen, they'd warrant a mainstage headline slot. But I would probably die of happiness if they did play. Hopefully after they played, of course.

i think the cure will headline the nme stage.

Anyway, I'm of the opinion that it could happen, though almost certainly won't. I would argue that Lostprophets, who are strongly rumoured to be headlining NME, are much more popular with your average Reading goer at the moment.

I couldn't see the Cure headlining main regardless, because again your average Reading goer knows at least a few songs by each of Arctic Monkeys, Kol, and Radiohead, but are probably not so familiar with the Cure. I'm 18, and most of my friends wouldn't be able to name a single song by them.

I guess we'll know for sure at 7 tonight though *fingers crossed*.

im not sure.......many bands these days are sampling the cure and they are having a bit of a revival.

as someone has posted already they won that nme award (as did the manics - im sure most kids wouldn't know loads of manics songs????)
